In the recent issue of Good Old Boat Magazine, there is a great article on the Compac 19. You 19ers out there and everyone for that matter will enjoy it. Good Old Boat usually leans towards bigger, older fiberglass classics but lately they've included some smaller boat stories.
Some of the older timers here will remember that a while ago (1 1/2 years maybe?) someone from Good Old Boat was looking for information on a up coming article on the 19. Guess he came through, huh.
This is a great magazine for sailors and owned by sailors. Check it out.

Yes I remember that fellow, the author?, asking for stories and photos, and tips about the CP-19...at long last! Time to make a trip to the magazine store for a look~see and an adder to my CP-19 collection of info.
thanks skip.

I must confess, I'm the guilty party.  The boat review article on the CP 19 was finished well over a year ago, but problems with the photography (camera issues) required reshooting, which in turn required another cross-state trip, etc.  The story was delayed and then had to be postponed again when the prints were lost in the mail (fortunately, I still had the negatives).  By that time, the story was bumped to a later issue and it has only now made it into print.  My apologies to you all, and my thanks for your help  and patience.  The CP 19 is a fine boat and it was an honor writing her up.  I hope you enjoy the article.

The charge being a fine article about a fine yacht in a fine magazine, the jury here at the Compac site finds you guilty as charged...but the judge will consider a complete pardon if you'll do an equally fine piece on the Compac 23. No pressure here, but you are facing 10-20 years of hard labor refinishing all the brightwork on all the Compacs ever built, starting with mine, so choose wisely.
Thanks for a great article. I learned a few things about the 19 that I didn't know. As you may have guessed, I'm owned by the s/v "Koinonia", a 1985 Compac 23/2 who's home port is Surf City, NJ. If you're ever in the area, stop by for a sail and cold beer.
Hi to Jerry and Karen and a thanks for all the hard work they put into the publication "for the rest of us".

Thanks for the kind words, and yes, I would love to do further reviews on Hutchins products (in fact, I'd like any work I could find at all!).  Perhaps a request from the readership to the appropriate magazines might help...as would any glowing testimonials referring to the fine work of your humble correspondent. Please keep in mind I am a free lancer, not a GOB employee, although most of my boating articles have been for them.

If you log on to the Good Old Boat website and go to "Reader Services">"Articles Search">"Com-Pac" you will find several references to Com-Pac yachts, including the CP23.  Most of these back issues are available from GOB either in print or on CD.

And while I'm here, I might as well do a bit more shameless self-promotion;

I went to our Book World here in Sturgeon Bay, WI and found one copy of July Augest and that edition had zero Com-Pac story. I either missed it or arrived too early with my $6 [or what ever it cost] in my hand.

Thank you, HC. I'll have to check back at Book World for...[/Sep-Oct/'09 issue of Good Old Boat magazine, page 48i]

On the 'shameless page' the other articles look interesting...

The Com-Pac review is in the Sep-Oct/'09 issue of Good Old Boat magazine, page 48.  Mine came in the mail a few days ago.  Delivery to bookstores usually is delayed a few days.

And your writting about the sinking of Barbara Ann underscores the need for a complete and proper MAY DAY distress calls as outlined in the procedure found in our USPS handbook.
Other stories are a blast as well. Your a talented guy.

I can't take credit for that one, "The Sinking of the Barbara Ann" was by Lee Waller.

http://www.goodoldboat.com/newsletter/febnewslett58.html#story2

it simply follows a short piece I had written a few paragraphs above it, about how I learned to sail.  Of course, your remarks about proper radio procedures go without saying.

You may have confused Mr Waller's essay with my own experience on a destroyer bridge described  in "On Yankee Station" in the QMSS.com website.

Many thanks for the kind words about my writing.  We writers often wonder if anyone actually reads our stuff, and the feedback is really a treat.  Thanks again.

Henry

There was a story about a flotilla captain while doing radio and radar back and forth on a foggy day, insisted that a lighthouse change course, that was in an old Small Boat Adviser. It's a hoot. skip.

KPL

It's a little Navy bashing.... But it's a cute illustration of your aforementioned story (lighthouse)

I loved it. Gave Captain Squid a 'pucker up'. Thanx. skip.
