I was told and read that lots of sailors have had issue purchasing gasoline or diesel from
marinas. I do know that I never purchase diesel at a marina. I always purchase
from an inland station which is busy and a lot of turn over. A friend purchased at a marina south of Boston
and $400 to get rid of it, clean the tank and refill... rather expensive weekend.

Still in my diesel tanks with using Stabil, I get some mold growth. I dump my diesel each spring and
essentially shine the tanks (wash, rewash, dump) and I find small amounts of mold. A friend has a furnace
that burns diesel in his garage so he thanks me for the 10 gallons I give him each spring...

For gasoline, I tend to only keep gas in the ourboard tank for less than a month, then it gets loaded in to
the car and burnt. I got an engine with my  Cp19, and it has been a pain in the neck. It is a yohatsu, 5 HP long shaft 2 cycle
probably a late 1980s model ... It hates stale gas. Sputters and revs up and then slows down... wlll rebuild the carberator this week as my final check...

I have had what were at first unexplainable problems with my Yamaha 4stroke but after reading somewhere about the evils of ethanol, that much of the problem can be avoided (sorry forget the actual reason) by using mid grade fuel. Took the advice, cleaned the carb and fuel tank, then replaced the fuel filter cartridge. Filled up with mid grade and have had smooth running ever since.

To bad you did not find the spark plug first, not saying gas was not but the trouble could have been the plug.

I run my gas longer than I should but do add the stabilizer whenever I by gas for boat or motor cycle. I also agree with the ethanol but where I live that is all they have.

You should be able to find a funnel with a screen that will help with the debris in gas and add an in-line fuel filter to gas line between tank and engine.
