Wondering if someone has--or is using stern mounted davits
I have been looking at some "TOPS-IN-QUALITY"  DAVITS  (used)
     My "dink" is only 90Lbs

Here is the best photo I can find of ours. The davit was homemade by the previous owner. The best part is the platform for the solar panel.

I like that. Hanging the Captain's gig from the transom. Much better then cluttering up the fore deck with a blow-up.
And not having to worry about backing over the tow line like Captain Queeg did in The Cane Mutiny is a plus.

See now here is a sailor who can post pictures with his posts.  He's a better bloke then.
I see that two wires add support for the davits. Must be going to the masthead.
I hope this boat is only rigged once a season. And look at the size of the solar cell. Is that a house your sailing on? LOL.
skip.

The support holding up the davit uses the old topping lift, at the end of the topping a turning block, through the block a line from one side to a mechanical advantage to snug it up. The boom is now held with a boomkicker. As for the solar panel it's an 85 watt kyocera, all the amps we need. Spent three weeks in Mexico and never had to run the engine to charge. As for rigging it's really not that bad. The whole process takes half a day but we are usually out for a month or so. Unless like this summer she will be on the ball at Dillon.

What is a boomkicker...how does that work??

bmiller

A boomkicker is a pair of fiberglass rods that hold the boom up in a horizontal position. As you pull down on the main or vang they flex. When you ease the main it pushes the boom back up. Replaces the topping lift.
