Need advice on hardware for genoa t-track installation

We are installing 1" Schaefer T-track on our '84 CP-16 for our "new" 155 genoa.  We plan on putting 36 - 48" on each side to give it lots of range.  What can you recommend for slides/cams/swivels....   Where to mount the cams?  I'd think a slide/car with a swivel cam and cleat combo would be the nicest, but I haven't seen one online that mounts on the track car.   Can anyone tell me the length of a 155 sheet for a CP-16?

Hello Greene

In the past I have used spring loaded blocks leading back to winch followed by deck mounted cam cleat.  Looking at price of that hardware today boggles my mind.  Hopefully a few the 16 sailors on site have 155's and can give you first hand knowledge. 

Do you have the 155 in possession and if so have you been able to see what kind of force it is going to take to controle it.

Thanks.  I recently bought the 155 genoa from Kevin (KPL) on this forum.  Thanks a bunch Kevin.  I certainly don't think I'll need a winch to control the sail.  A 155 on a 16 footer is still a pretty small sail.  But I am hoping for feedback from other 16'ers who already fly one so I can set it up properly.  I have the 1" tracks ready to install and I did buy a couple of used sail slides on eBay so I could try it out right away, but I don't want to invest more money without seeking some experienced advice.

I added a 155% jenny to my 1994 CP16XLIII.  It already had the tracks on the coamings.  I have not found any need for a winch.  As others have said, it's still a pretty small sail.  Still the 155 Genoa sure helps in light winds.  I think it is a great investment.

Here's some shots of the Genoa track on my CP 16.  The car is just a bullseye with a cam cleat (of course, now that I look at the photo, It's facing outward.  In practice the sheet comes through the bullseye and the cam cleat is facing into the cockpit).  It's adjusted by liftting pin at the rear of the car and sliding to the desired position, then it locks in place.  works very well.

Sheet loads are very manageable.  If they start to get to much, it's time to roll in a little sail (if you have a furler).

 thanks for the info on the 155. i sailed with it last year hanked on and made a jib furler for it this year. i intend to use it on light air days. on the normal 10 to 20 mph days i will slide on the other furler with the stock jib. those full length tracks sure do look good

Perfect.  That shows what I had in mind, although my t-track will only be about 48" long.  I am going to have to find out how to post pictures so I can show you what I end up with.  Now all I have to do is find a slide/car that I can bolt the cam and fairlead to.  It is going to be a busy spring, I am installing two new tires on rims, mounting one spare tire on the trailer, rigging up some kind of bimini, bottom paint, and hopefully painting the ol' 1952 Evinrude.  I'd like to replace the Evinrude, but it runs so darn good (for being even older than me) that putting a new dress on her seems like the way to go.

 I have the same setup as in Kevin's pictures. I recieved the tracks and cars from Com- Pac after calling them and telling them what I needed. I think it was arround $100.00.   BILL

The $100.00 (around) that Cap. Hart tells about is a good deal, I would def. call Com-Pac.  I was searching Schafer and West Marine and they are out of sight on parts.

I read on another post that the Hutchins set-up comes with tracks that are only 18" long.  Otherwise I would prefer to buy from them.  If anyone has ordered theirs recently let us know.  I think anything less than 36" wouldn't be worth the effort.

Try seeing if they will sell just the traveler with fair lead and cam cleat.  I think you are right wanting the longer track.
Some owners have posted pictures where they have used travelers to anchor Bimini to track.

Just got the info from Hutchins on their set-up.  They will sell (2) 5 foot sections of track with (2) swiveling bullseyes for $195 plus shipping.  Seems pretty reasonable compared to most of the mfr's pricing.  "Oh Honey, where is the Visa?"
