Passing of a Compac lover

I was saddened to read this morning that Ted Blake passed away yesterday.  Ted owned many compacs over the years, some of them more than once as he loved trading boats.  I sold him a CP 16 many years ago.  One of Ted's claims to fame was when he claimed his own island down at Southport by running aground and being stranded until the tide came back in.  He took the accompanying ribbing in stride.  Ted will be missed.

So sorry to hear that.  Ted was a generous man and I had the fortune meeting him on several occasions and visited his very unique house in Winston Salem.

He gave my daughter a Hobie Hawk hull that was retried from summer camp.  We put windsurfing rig on it and named the boat "Ted's Island".  Once she grew out of that boat, we will pass to the next family with young children as an extension of O'ld Ted's legacy.
