Will there be a Com Pac Convergence 08?

Hi All,
I was reading about last year's ComPac Convergence.  I'm new to the ComPac family having just bought by '85 ComPac 23 last month.  I'll be keeping "Blond Ambition" at Atlantic Highlands, and would enjoy meeting other ComPac owners.
Cheers,
Sherie

Hi Sherie:
Wow! I also have a 1985 23. I'm also the instigator of the Compac Convergence 2008. If you look further down on the lounge section, you'll find a thread. Check it out. In 2007, it was just a real informal gathering of friends over at Tice's Shoals at Island Beach State Park. It would be great to see you there. So far we have interest from about 8 sailors.
We have a very strict agenda for the weekend...none! Just r&r, swimming, eating and just general forgetting about the rest of the world for a time. And watching beautiful sunsets.
Tell me more about your boat? Aren't they beautiful?

Hi Bob,
Yes.  I think they're beautiful too.  I was looking at a number of Hunters and a few Catalina's, but the ComPac was so much more boat for the money!  I'm a little nervous about sailing her on the coast.  My previous boat "Mother Mayhem" was a 16 foot Apollo and I only sailed her in lakes.  For "Blond Ambition" I've secured a mooring at Atlantic Highlands.  I might try to find an experienced sailor to go along for my first sail with her.  I am taking the Basic Coastal Cruising Course in early May.  That should improve my knowledge and confidence (I hope).  :o)
I'll definitely try to sail down for the Convergence '08.

Sailing at Atlantic Highlands looks like fun. I agree that sailing down that coast should not be taken lightly. Best to you, Sherie.

The only thing I found on google that resembled com-pac convergence was Kevin's blog at http://www.sailblogs.com/member/floridaze/.

Is there a date for this year?  Seems like since Kevin sails in New Joyzie and you mentioned Atlantic Highlands last year must have been in the waters off Sandy Hook.  If I had a lot of time on my hands I could sail there but maybe I'll trailer since I've been short of time lately.

So ... any dates for 2008 yet?

Last years Convergence was at Tice's Shoals which is at Island Beach State Park. Quite a bit further south than Sandy Hook. Just a bit north of Barnegat Inlet. Check NOAH chart #12324 or 38 degrees, 49.5 minutes North; 74 degrees, 6 minutes west.
Tentatively 8/16.

Hi Bob,

I've been there - by car only and only in the way off season.  I have an aunt who lives nearby (in a retirement village).  She's in her late 90's so I don't think she'll want to crew.  But I'll have stop by and visit if I'm in the neighborhood.

Any good places to launch and to leave a truck and trailer nearby for a day or two or three?  I'm not sure I'd want to launch or retrieve on Saturday or Sunday so Friday to Monday (or longer) seems like a better plan.  Is that possible anywhere nearby?

Curtis:
Yes, possibly the marina where I now reside. Most of the municipal ramps don't let you leave a vehicle and trailer overnight. I'll ask at Long Key Marina when I go there tomorrow. I think they have a ramp.
Isn't Tice's Shoals great? It's not exactly undiscovered anymore but you get the feel that you are stepping back to a time where things weren't so darned regulated. Beach fires permitted, no lifeguards, swim where ever you want.
   I'll keep you posted.
Bob23, wide awake are rarin' to sail!
