Good morning.  This would be my first post on the CPYOA.  Just purchased a CP 16 here in Minnesota where the windchill is currently -25 fahrenheit.  Very excited about the boat, but a little difficult to think of sailing when it's this cold!

I have yet to sail a CP and can't wait for the opportunity to do so.  I'm sure I will have many questions and comments when the time comes!  Looks like this will be the place to come for the answers.

Bring on the heat.

Welcome.  Congratulations on the 16.  What year model is it?  Being a new CP owner is an exciting adventrue.  The answers to many of your questions are here already.  If not, just ask.  Someone will probably have an answer.  Good luck.  Bring on the heat.

The CP is a 1986, and was purchased here in Minnesota from a very helpful seller!  It was he that recommended that I find this website.  I have been busy reading a lot of helpful hints already.  Thanks to Chad for all of the help so far......I will be picking the boat up tomorrow and moving to another location until the water is a little softer!

Congratulations and welcome to the Com Pac Family.

This is a great site with great people and a great source of information on Com Pac's and sailing.

Plenty to read about which will help you through the cold weather months, if you cant sail, this forum is the next best thing  to get you through the cold spell !

Gilby,
Let us ad our welcome to the Com-pac forum.  Tis a great bunch of people and a great place to get answers to your questions.

We are located a bit South of you in Wisconsin and it also is below zero windchill.  Not good.  To keep busy there are alot of sailing books and magazines.  Also I have been lining up projects to do as soon as that heat wave above 50 degrees hits.  haha.  Soon I hope.

You are invited to our Midwestern Rendezvous at carlyle lake, illinois on August 8th through the 10th.  Hope it is not to far for you.  Will be great fun.  We are driving 6 hours to get there from Burlington, Wi

We also own a CP 16, year 1983, hull number 1994, named Summer Escape.
If you have any questions please ask.  We are here.

Welcome aboard.

Lost Lake

Hi Gilby!

I have a CP19 just north of Madison, WI on Lost Lake. Welcome aboard!

We have to get a local sail set up.... I'm planning on the Apostle Islands this year.

gilby

I sure appreciate the kind words!  I just moved the boat on Thursday to another location, and now just need to wait for the thaw.  Very excited to take the first sail on the CP.  If the ice is out on Lost Lake near Madison first, I just might have to hook up and go!

Apostles sound fun, but I need a bunch of experience first!

Lost Lake

Well, Lost Lake is only 300 acres.... I trailer mine when I sail.

Hold that thought though... We need a Mid or Northern Midwest sail!!

Rick Klages

Welcome,  Are you new to Sailing or just Com-Pac? Congrats on the boat!

In response to ick.....

Not really new to sailing, however it has been many years!  Used to own a Catalina 22, but that was 20 years ago!  Time to teach my children how to sail, and thus the CP16.  The boat comes highly recommended, and I can't wait to give
it a try.  I have spent the last several years with SAILPLANES not SAILBOATS.  I have now given up one for the other!  The former I could really not share with my kids, the latter remains much closer to sea level!

When in August is the Midwest sail?  Lake Carlyle is a great sailing lake...one of the best in the Midwest so I hear.

DOUG142

JohnJ,
The get together or Rendevous is August 8 - 10 , 2008 at Carlyle Lake, Illinois

You can even get T-shirts at Zazzle.com ......just search on Com-Pac.

Hope you can make it.  We have three boats coming for sure and look forward to more by August.
