One of Captain Joshua Slocum's Boats was named the "spray".

Hi Ick,

Thanks, great book.

What else do you have that you can read on line ?

I don't know if anyone here is into this, but there are hours and hours of online reading about real people currently on the high seas living the sailing life.  Two of my favorite links are:

Then, if you want to follow the voyage of Heather Neill, who will embark on a journey to be the first woman to do a solo circumnavigation aboard a 20' boat (a Pacific Seacraft "Flicka") on 1/1/08, you can link here:

Enjoy!

Ralph:
Thanks for the tip on the Flight of Years site. I'll be following her progress when she leaves on New Years Day. Hey, anyone notice any similaries of the Flicka to the Compac 23 or is it just me? I'm sure she's different below the waterline but above they certainly look like cousins. Even the rig is similar.

A FLICKA was on the hard locally and I gave her a good hard look~see.
A big "AHHH HAAA" was the stainless steel metal thickness of the chain plates. These babies were thick!!

No weather is going to tear these plates from their mounting holes unless the holes themselves go away, as in destroyed, no more heavily backed fiberglass, and if that happens the hull is in deep trouble and sinking.

Also a full keel and not a shallow draft one. Rudder attachment points a beefy. She is fitted with a tiller as this makes a positive feel between the hand of the helmsman and the rudder. No pulleys to squeak break and bind. Keep it simple get you back home more times then one realizes.

All other changes are of similar nature as I can see. Check the weight, and weight per foot of length. skip.

Skip,  Did you notice that the "Flicka" has Caterpillar tractor treads!  Them boats er built like Abrams M-1 tanks.

Yep Captain I did notice the 'stoutness' of this boat. They are small and mighty boats in heart. Fine boats I just can't afford them.
Speaking of A1M1 Battle Tanks did you see the U-Tube vid of the crew taping the 'view' out of the 'windshield' when the earth blowup in front of the A1M1? The earth stayed in a pile and the tank just drove around the obstruction. Way cool. skip.
