"New" 1978 16' Com-Pac

Just got me a 16' ComPac. Appears to have very little wear for its advanced age ...  only a few blisters.  Starting to put in a headliner and not satisfied with material or adhesive.  Any ideas??  Thanks for any input.



Thank you for the neat idea, ie shower stall material, never thought of that!  Got the vinyl in and now trying to decide how to "finish the "v" in bow.  Would like to make  pillow for reading .  Also cut out port holes from 1/4 plastic laying around.  Have finished inside ports to hide the bolts.  All in all, looks pretty fair.  Pleased of the look and feel of the vinyl on walls and roof.  Put my teak down and have  already painted the bottom  (fire engine red)

Have pictures but still stumped on how to paste them here.    Wind is up here in Georgia and itchin' to get her out and sail. Our kids are aiming for this Saturday........perhaps, me think, they could drop by one night and give me a hand.........NAH    Karl

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your "new" boat.

Pictures, pictures, pictures.  (I guess that would make it worth 3000 words).

They're very helpful in describing problems and sharing solutions.  What type of headliner is it and what type of adhesive are you using?  Are we talking one or two blisters or more than you can count?

Sanded bottom and painted with epoxy.  Had about 10 blisters.  Have not sailed her.  Just brought her home, took off the trailer and jacked up on large timbers and rigged and suspended from ceiling in my shop.  Easier to work on and out of the elements.  I made pattern of ceiling and glued vinyl fabric to  the  pattern.   Today I glued (maxibond) it to the ceiling.

I don't like the raw fiberglass on the inside, so, I planned to glue carpet to it.  Also, I plan to cover the cabin upper section with 1/8 inch teak plywood.  Hopefully I can get some pictures to show progress. 

My grand  plan is to sail down the "Hooch" (Chattahoochee River ) from Columbus to Applachacola.  Distance of approx  320 miles.  Hopefully, I can do it next fall.

Sounds like your really doing a bang up job retro fitting her to what you want.

I have a friend who used the shower panels that you can buy at your Home Depot (4 x 8 sheets) to use on the bare fiberglass sides, it bends well, cuts easy enough and is very is to keep clean, he even used it to make a sub flooring really turn out nice.

I mention this as an alternative to carpet which tends to collect and hold dirt and water.
