B.O.A.T.= break put another thousand. Well, luckily for small boat owners that is a rare occasion. However the definition of a boat being "a hole in the water one pours money into" is still relevant.
Today I loaded my cooler, donned my pfd and climbed aboard Miss Adventure only to discover the tiller is rotted. I drilled hole and installed a ss screws and lock nut for now, but when we return from CLR, I'll need to permanently fix it. I have 2-2"×4"×6' pieces of teak I may cut into slats and glue up for it, but it will be cheaper to purchase a new one.

Carl, I made one as you described using alternating slats of ash and walnut.  It came out great. If you have the tools available I think you can do that at much less cost than buying one.  Had to build a little form to but the bend in but no real problem.  If I were close I'd get the form to you.

Very nice job. I sold all my woodworking machinery before we moved.
