Cabin ceiling help

Finally getting around to start working on my CP16 that I?m hoping to get in the water this year.

The cabin ceiling is flaking (see photo).  Any suggestions on how to remove remaining (power options would be great if that?s an option)?  Also, what do you suggest to put back on it?

The sides are not flaking; however, do you suggest they are done at the same time?

I'm in the middle of a refurb as well, and tried a couple options. A wire cup on an angle grinder was gentle enough to remove paint, but not harm the glass. However, it's a big load on the angle grinder. Burned up two of them (one brand new) doing the inside of my hull.

Grinding disc was way too abrasive.

The best so far that I found is a 36 grit flap disc on the angle grinder, which didn't chew up the fiberglass if it's kept moving. It worked great, but eventually the disc wears out. Plan on going through a couple of them.

Thanks JP.  I?ll pickup some flap disc.

Have you decided what type of paint that you?ll put back on it?

Shayne, I used rustoleum high performance protective enamel. It seems to be tough and I used it hoping I wouldn't need to do it again for a very long time.

I used a plastic scraper like the type you might use to apply drywall spackling.  The paint I used was Rustoleum enamel.
