Hey gang,
I'm trying to get my new to me Cp16 seaworthy and I find I am missing some hardware. I have figured most of it out but, I can't figure out what attaches my forestay to the forward chain plate (not sure if this is the right name.). Would I just put a D shackle on it? I will try to attach a Pic of what I have.

Bbarry

This is what I have.

If I understand your question correctly, you don't need the shackle. The turnbuckle attaches directly to the bow stem plate.

Hey Paul! Thanks so much for the reply!

I realize now you cant see it from the photo but the right shackle loop is flat on the inside edge (See blown up image)... so if i used it, it would have a gap on the top (loaded side) of the chain plate hole... I would expect it would get impact loaded as the boat would rock from front to back eventually tearing into the plate or deforming the shackle ...(like putting a flat bar into a round hole and lifting the bar)

I would expect a round well fitted pin or turnbuckle to go thru the hole in the plate like on the two side stays. But I really have no idea having never seen this setup in person.

Any chance you have a picture?

Perhaps my previous owner did something weird and I just need to replace my shackle with the flat inside edge with a fully round D.

Or more likely I am missing something simple.

Yup! That makes sense. Im over complicating it.
Because it was on there when I got it I would have agonised about why it was there.

Thanks guys!
