Best Christmas gift ever!

I received this, framed, as a Christmas gift from some folks who must love me very much. A customized drawing of my own boat, correct down to the smallest detail! This jpeg image doesn't really do justice to the sharpness and detail of the real thing. Can't get over it and wanted to share with anyone whose loved ones might be looking for a great gift for a sailor. The artist is Doug Bonds, a lifelong sailor and graphic artist who lives in Belhaven, NC. You can find him and order your own on Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/shop/BoatPride. Check it out!

Wow, that is very nice.  Did he do it from photos are actually seeing the boat out of the water?

He researched and found the original Hutchins drawings online, then had some sneaky friends of mine take spy photos of my boat so he could confirm paint colors and rigging details. Check out his artist bio on Etsy - in the past he's done some contract work for Beneteau creating drawings of their boats for their brochures. Obviously he's attentive to detail, and because he's a sailor he understands how boats are put together. I've emailed with him and he's a really nice guy.

He was willing to share the digital image file with me, and I'm planning to have some note cards printed up.

Hello Wes,

You did an awesome job with Sophie. She is very beautiful to see in person and this drawing is awesome! Quality boat, quality work fixing her up, quality drawing! Congrats!

I love this - what a great gift! My issue is boat envy, given that Sophie is just across the dock from me at Potters Marina!
