Currently sailing a new SageCat 15 and looking long term for a Horizon Cat.  Figure finding a used one will take me as long as finding my PSC Flicka Annabelle....  Also interested in learning the sailing characteristics of a HC.

How about a Horizon Day Cat?  Large 10' cockpit.  Rob

Thanks, but my sailing itinerary will require the full cabin.

Yep, the HDC has a tiny cabin, although the HC doesn't have much of a cabin either!

Show me a 20 foot sailboat with a bigger one.

Moving up from SageCat 15, so I believe the HC cabin will be comparable  to our Flicka  in size just without the headroom of the Flicka.  Is this accurate.  I have yet to see in person a HC interior.

We had a Sun Cat and really liked the simplicity of a Cat Boat and with the Sun Cat we added the gin pole so that the mast could be raised or lowered from the cockpit. The only problem was room. For me it was sitting head room and the really tight space when trying to sleep two overnight.
So we started looking for bigger Cat boats (love cat boats). Couldn't find an descent affordable  HC but did find a Menger 19. It is only 2 feet longer but way more boat. It still has a tabernackle mast that hinges down and the sail stays bent in place. A really big deal for us since we trailer sail.
What really is hard to understand is how much bigger this boat is. The cabin has 7 foot bunks with room at the foot for storage. The cockpit can easily hold 6 people. It is very wide 8 feet and can carry the load and still be on her lines and we have a comfortable sitting head room cabin. A big plus is the yanmar inboard diesel.

Do you feel that you gave up anything based on the  cabin layouts for HC vs Menger?  Is the center board  in the way, breaking up cabin?

Was looking at both Marshall and Menger but thought the cabin on the  Horizon Cat was  layed out better.  Not sure it is worth the $15k premium though.

Now that you have the Menger, are there any regrets  based on cabin layout?  I am in the same spot, limited HC  inventory, and Mengers, Marshalls, and Herrshoff  America  available.

Drove 6 hours to look at a Herreshoff America HA18 yesterday.  Awesome boat but can't  live with the centerboard trunk in the cabin.  So the search for a Horizon Cat continues....

PJ if you had an issue with the CB trunk in the H-A you won't like the Menger either. CB trunk is right in the middle of the cabin. They did add drop leaf side tables that are hinged off the trunk that function very well.

Agree Tom, one of our 110 pound Anatolian  Shepherds  is our travel dog, and she would not be able  to enter the  cabin.   Also, standing at the sink my feet had to go fore and aft   while my body faced  port /starboard, function of size  12 shoes with cb trunk in the way.  :(
