SoCalSkipper

Hello all--

Long time sailor with many boats over the years.  Live and sail in SoCal.

As I get older, I am looking for a boat that is easier to set/up take down.  I will not keep in a marina and will need to trailer to all locales, primarily local lakes and Pacific Ocean.

Hope to learn and share about these very nice Com-Pac boats and the fine people that sail them!

Hello yourself,

Glad to see another west coaster on here. We're outnumbered here you know.

I used to live in the LA area for a few years but haven't been back in a long time. Curious what lakes you sail? Welcome to the lounge.

The Sun Cat is a great boat for what you are talking about doing. My Sun Cat has owned me for six years or so. Works fantastic for trailer sailing, just a hour or two or a few days. Easy to tow, launch and retrieve  from the trailer at most boat ramps. You can add as much gear as you want or sail it just as it comes out of the box. I have added to much To my boat but would advise a auto pilot if you are going to do any single hand sailing.  Just a old sailor how got a little dingy and goes around in circles.

I totally agree with Roger - the SunCat is a great little boat.  But, also the Eclipse should be considered.  The Eclipse is a sloop rig and the SunCat is a cat rig.  The Eclipse is larger being slightly larger than 21 feet.  I trailer sail most of the winter while down here in Florida.  Suring the summer I put the boat in a slip in northern Illinois and it mostly sits there May thru Sept.  When I get to the ramp it will take me 15 minutes (about) to be in the water.  Both the SunCat and the Eclipse carry their sail on the boom on the deck during travel.  With the MastEnder system on board the mast is really easy to step by one person.  After it is up you slide the boom with sail into position, pin it in place and you are ready to go sailing.  The Eclipse handles rough water exceptionally well and the combination of a Genoa, Main and centerboard allow for just about any situation.  The cabin is small but reasonably comfortable.  It is a great sailing boat.  If you have questions or want to talk PM me and I will send you my phone number.  I am always ready to talk sailing.  Sail On,  Al
