After 40+ boating years I got smart and finally found all I ever needed was a ComPac 16. Slowly down sized from a 37 footer over the years. Yesterday paid $550 for my 16, nice shape with trailer and fresh sails, just missing tiller but I have one in the shed that will work.  I sail the Chesapeake Bay and have been for the last 30 years.  Sailing out of Cambridge off the Chop Tank.

Welcome, King of the World, to our Com-Pac family.  Sounds like you got a great deal on your 16.

Must've 'Chop Yanked' that right from under Bob23's prodigious probiscus.

Welcome indeed! Something about those 16's. On number two. Actually if ya don't mind sharing, what is the hull number on your 16. We have often wondered what happened to the one that taught us sailing 35 yeast ago!

Also there are some great gatherings that happen with us Compac types. There is one up in Joisey land this month and one off the Chesapeake next month. Come join!

Thanks Leonardo! Our first 16 was hull #1270, still wondering where she might be.  :)

Seriously you might wanna consider attending one of the upcoming events with this crazy group of sailors. The Jersey event is next weekend and the Chesapeake event is now slated for 2/17

The summer version of the Chesapeake event (ChesapeakeBayMidSummerGathering) has some great cruising grounds for a 16. Come check them out this winter, then come again with your 16 this summer. Can only promise that your reputation will permanently be compromised!

I'm leaving for Puerto Rico Friday to do more volunteer work. If I get back by the 17th I'll do the Chesapeake meet. Today I registered my boat and put on the new numbers. She is ready to sail!

Welcome to Com-Pac.  I'm just down the river, at Tilghman Island, although I don't get to sail as much as would be preferred.  Definitely a lot better sailors on here than me.

Mas

Perfect! Good to have a sailing buddy, plus you guys can carpool down to the February gathering! Hope to meet you finally.  :)

So, I'm back from volunteer work in Puerto Rico and during my off time was trying to come up with a good name for my, new to me, Compac 16 .  I think I'll name her "Last Boat (No Really!)".   Anyway, I am working on making a trailer extension like the one I had on my Skipper 20 that gave me an extra 8' of launching length when needed ( and that was most of the time).

One of my favorite songs by the late Jim Morris, The Floating Opera mentions the Chop Tank.  Brings back memories from being a kid
as we used to vacation some around your area when we lived back east.

We continued to explore
Kent Island to Baltimore
The sun was a tiny sliver
When we cruised up the Choptank River
Mooning everybody on the shore

Come to think of it, this forum reminds me of The Floating Opera in many ways.

Let's go out on the boat
It's such a beautiful day
So we pull out of St. Michaels
For a spin 'round the Chesapeake Bay
We've got bars to explore
We've got the whole damn Eastern shore
We've got sunny skies and light winds
Food and booze and good friends
We're gonna have ourselves
A party along the way

I digress...welcome to the forum and congrats on your new CP16...great little boats!

Yes! A great area to sail. Good waterways, places to visit, eat, fish, camp and you know what I mean. During summer months many folks with summer homes from NY, NJ, PA and more. If you have never been on the Choptank you are missing one of the best parts of the Chesapeake Bay Area.
