Sailing ideas for 2018

From the standpoint of dang it's cold, and I have a cold, and I wish....

Anyway, I plan on trying to get somewhere a bunch of times this coming year.

From my club location to New Bern

From club to:

Goose Creek,
Oriental
South River
Beaufort & Cape Lookout

Maybe some other places if there is time.

I hope to see some of you out Loose on the Neuse!

That's my list too, with the addition of sailing across the Pamlico Sound to Ocracoke - which makes my wife want to breathe into a paper bag. I'm undaunted, though, even if I have to do it alone. It would be fun to have another boat or two in company, in case I need to be rescued.

Maybe we can each sail to Oriental & then go through Adsms Creek to Beaufort & CLO.

Last time I went to Ocracoke it seemed a lot like work.

I suspect Charlie will want to join in too. He's an old hand at those trips so he may be able to keep me out of trouble! I nominate him as Commodore of this little fleet.

Let's keep an eye on the thermometer.

Sounds like great ideas.  I have been from Wilmington to Morehead offshore and it's a great trip, 6-8 times along the ICW.  Cape Lookout adds a couple more hours but should be an easy jaunt depending on winds.  Give me an email if you start getting closer to a trip.  I am up for it.

As I just emailed Wes, it is almost too cold to think of sailing. 

None the less, Sophie, Wes's C-27 is nearing water and Terry's C-23, Cool Change would probably be interested.  Terry is very a very knowledgeable old hand on the Neuse. 

Should be some good sailing soon.

owning property in Oriental, i keep tabs on the weather there.  according to the weather channel it's 30* today.

i'll that over what we woke up to this morning....

Glad to get some replies; have sailed with Terry and Charlie, so adding some other folks would be great.

Although I have sailed in a lot of these places, most of that was with a trailerable boat; the CP 23 hasn't really been anywhere other than the upper Neuse from Upper Broad Creek to Minnesott. I hope that changes this year!

Winter 1993-1994 was my first as a liveaboard, having purchased Rebecca Lyn (Islander 36) in Sept 2013 on Johns Island, SC and sailed outside to ... Cape Fear, I think?  Maybe Lookout.  Would have to get a chart ... anyway, one of the best trips EVER spending a week transiting Charleston outside to where ever north then inside all the way to Norfolk where we spent the winter and more in Bay Pointe Marina (Little Creek Amphib base area).

'93-'94 was the hardest winter I think in 20 years.  New Years Eve sailed from Little Creek around to Portsmouth/Norfolk waterfront in the Elizabeth River.  Ice on the deck was washed off with saltwater and we had to beat the genoa once unfurled to get the proper luff shape because the ice still had it in tight curl. 

My Dad attended, and didn't mind dunking the rail to wash me up to my knees in this ice water just because he could!  I had just turned 24...
I remember that day wearing four pairs of pants, and still a gluteous maximus (butt) muscle was able to independently shiver in different harmony than the rest of the shivering.

At the bar, I was so hypothermic my Mom always reminds me I asked the bartender what time the fireworks were.  Duh, New Years = midnight.  Sure Memorial Day or 4th of July could be earlier ...

Weather was better on New Years Day, we sailed back in probably 55-60 degree weather.  Now need to pass these characteristics on to the kids.  Rebecca Lyn just went back into the water after extended bottom job and still in the midst of lengthy refit; but the ComPac 25 I still have was also hauled for barrier coat and bottom job ... should be ready shortly!

But this arctic blast has all of New Orleans/SE Louisiana in for 6 days of hard freeze; don't think that's ever happened in my almost 20 years here...

Always enjoy going to Hancock Creek and enjoyed trekking up to Turnagain Bay this past year along with Upper Broad Creek. Looking forward to getting back on the Neuse soon. Haven't  been to Cape Lookout lately, that will be a good trip also! Hope to get my boat berthed at Blackbeard's in the coming months!
