Hmm..maybe this is why there's a leak

Been having a nagging leak from the toerail at the vberth..so while waiting to relaunch after Nate I pulled the port toerail..
Guessing at some point in the past before my time there was some 'got caught under the dock' damage. And somebody's putty patch didn't hold, that's it resting on the deck .I cleaned it all out, sanded and rebuilt with thickened epoxy. Guess after it gets too hot to sail next summer I'll pull both sides off and do the usual groove and fill repair all around.

is that even lined up properly? I have a problem like that on mine that is more severe and larger that I will be fixing soon, it actually ripped the deck out from the rivets and is pushed inwards, luckily its not cracked on the inside so it will somewhat hold a shape so I can reinforce it, then put it where it needs to be, attach to hull, and reinforce it some more before I reseal it all up... Good luck

Looks like it isn't lined up but its just missing a chunk of deck - broke a piece of lip on top but left the hull pretty much ok. That's why I'm thinking something it got under a dock in a storm and banged the deck. Might also explain the dinged up chainplate tangs I replaced. If only they could talk and tell us what they've seen and where they've been...

they would be crying as they told us the stories LOL

right in the middle I can see where it ripped out through the rivet on your boat. You may have to remove some of the surrounding rivets to free it up enough and push it back into the right spot, probably need a helper on the inside with some good force, I would try to secure it at the bad spot first, then refasten the good holes that you removed the rivets in last

The damage actually goes beyond what's in that photo, that's the worst area. It ran from about the bow pulpit rear stanchion back to the first lifeline stanchion and  there  was a place or two where they damage caused the deck to shrink away a touch, as in the pic below, but at least for now the repair was to fill the seam, and build the deck lip back up. Even tho  the hull and deck are now one in that area now I popped a few rivets back in place.

Not sure I could regain that 1/2" by pushing the cabin back out anyway; might cause more stress trying than the result would be worth. Cool weather, time to sail !
