Good Evening one and all.
I just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is David and I maybe something of a rarity on here being a) in the United Kingdom (Thats England!) and b) having just purchased a Com-Pac 23. Even more so as I now realise that Com-Pac 23s with the inboard Yanmar diesels are something of a rarity. So you can add another one to the list of where they are.
PS Just so you know CoVianna is a Romano-Celtic Water Goddess. A sort of cross between Lady Luck and the Lady of the Lake. Roman soldiers used to toss a coin into a stream as an offering to her. An early form of a wishing well.

Hail coVianna,

How did your 23 make it to the U.K. ?  Was it shipped or was it sailed?

It must be great sailing against twin keels!

Are you inland or on the coast?

Sorry go the questions, but I suspect there is a good story...

Welcome aboard!  Beware of Bob, and PBR beer.

Hi
It was shipped across in 1997 apparently.
The boat is currently on the South Coast on the Isle of Wight but i will shortly have her transported to the East Coast. I am on the River Humber, which is a tidal estuary. This gives me good coastal sailing with the opportunity to cross the channel and explore France, Holland and for long trips to explore the Baltic.
Quite a few bulge keel yachts here but fin keels predominate with quite a few lift keelers also. Very handy if you catch the mud!
But initially I will explore the inland rivers, following the old Viking routes to York and just to get used to the boat.
Fair tides!
David

Welcome to the group. You must be one of a very small group of ComPac owners on that side of the pond.

When I bought my boat the dealer was preparing one to ship to Germany at the same time so it still happens from time to time. Enjoy.

Hello from the Mississippi Gulf Coast !
I have enjoyed watching Dylan Winter's Keep Turning Left videos on sailing the Humber and the other tidal stream areas. Waiting for a tide to let you in or out of a marina up a stream is so different than what I'm used to; here a one or two foot coastal tide  only means you may have to step up to or down to the boat from the dock !

Welcome aboard!  There is one other active UK member, Gordon who sails Applejack, a very well maintained CP-16.  There are plenty of informed and helpful people here to share their knowledge, although I'm mainly just trying to absorb a few tidbits.

Welcome!  That is a truly beautiful 23D  I've always been a sucker for navy blue hulls and the extra teak coaming cover on the D's

Oh and don't worry about Bob.  I've found that he cannot engage in extortion below the Mason Dixon line, so he has no chance at all in England.  I doubt that his Joisy family can even find it on the map.  If he does happen upon you just offer him a good English ale at a pub and he'll forget about the extortion, ah I mean initiation fee.

Finbar Beagle

Beautiful boat! Is that another com-PAC moored behind you?

I don't think so.
That is not my mooring, it is the mooring of the chap I am buying off. It is at Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. A lovely peaceful location well away from the manic Solent! But handy if you fancy some fun on the Solent or fancy doing the Round the Island race.
This is where I will be initially sailing.

Thank you. I'm pleased with her. As a design I think it just works.

Good looking, inside and out, basically not at all like NJ Bob.
