Thanks for the correction on the stainless cable numbers. Did not know that!

Thanks all for the welcomes and the help.

I will start a new thread for the bowsprit issues, with pictures and all, to not change the theme of this post so much.

As promised here is a better picture of my new CP 16, I will add some more later to show the cabin layout and all the gadgets and such later.

Great pictures. It looks to me like the forestay might reach the extended cable on the bowsprit. Only way to know is to secure the mast with a separate line to stay upright safely, or have someone hold the mast upright, remove the forestay from its current location on the bow, and see if it reaches the cable. If so, that's a step in answering your forestay length question (might involve adjusting the turnbuckle some).

When the forestay attaches to the sprit, it puts upward tension on it and the bobstay. That's probably why the bobstay is now slack. Perhaps you don't need a turnbuckle on that stay if the forestay fits and it can be adjusted.

One important thing. The wood on your bowsprit looks split (I had to replace mine). Lots of pressure on that piece when properly rigged, so make sure it is good and solid if you rig to it.

Hate to mention that sail configurations are different for older mk 1 boats and mk2+ models, so make sure you jib sets ok with new forestay placement.

Looks like the bow sprit was added by a previous owner. The bob stay would normally have a turnbuckle at each end to adjust tension. The tang where your bow is the same as older models.
Have you checked the HIN on the starboard side of the transom to see if the hull is a 1985? I think '85 was the year of adding the bow sprit and changing from aluminum to stainless on the bow pulpit.
Your stay, if made for the bow sprit, should reach the forward hole in the metal sprit frame while the sprit is in line with the shear of the fore deck. Seems you have the stainless pulpit and sprit.
My guess is your stay and your jib are made to fit the tang at the bow.
Maybe the previous owner can fill in the blanks.

Thanks for the help guys and yes I did look at the HIN and it ends with 85. I couldn't get the whole number as the swimming ladder was bolted on over it.

I will try repositioning the forestay and see what happens and yes I know I have to address that wood on the bowsprit, does anyone know a source for it?

Also, it would be helpful to see a picture of the anchor fastened on the bowsprit? I would like to see the setup, is the anchor just resting on the wheel and the rope cleated?

Bow Sprit
The anchor rests on the roller with a securing line from the stock to a small cleat on the pulpit. Keeps the bow cleat free.
The PVC is a sleeve over the forestay turnbuckle to avoid snagging on cotter keys.
The line and small block are for a jib downhaul.

Maybe you could repair the wood insert with liquid nails and reinforcing on the underside. If not, Hutchins is a source. The 2011 parts list  had the insert @ $124. Matt at Hutchins can help ( 727-443-4408).

I think your hull looks quite good. Is there an issue at the front of the keel?
These are fine boats. Hope you will enjoy.

Don't know if the picture is reduced enough to pass!

carry-on, thank you so much for the picture and information, it will come in very handy when I try to get mine back in to operation. I think i will first try to repair the split piece of wood but it is good to know I can still purchase the piece if need be.

Well, since you brought it up I will now bring up the front of the keel. I noticed the issues with the front of the keel right away and was a little worried. Below are some pictures, what do you all think? Am I seeing exposed concrete or does it seem like just cosmetic  scrapes from the trailer rollers? If the issue is exposed concrete, what can result from this and what is the best method of addressing the issue?

crazycarl

that is just gel-coat chipping off.

you can purchase kits to repair this.

very simple to do.

Not to contradict the advice from the most esteemable Crazy Carl, but the 2nd photo seems to show more than gel-coat damage. I'd get it repaired sooner than later because you don't want water intrusion into the concrete.
In other news, if you've been lurking around here for some time, you're probably aware that I'm in charge of collecting the $5000.00 membership fees. But I'm gonna make you an offer that you can't refuse: If you tell us your real name, I'll waive that fee! Is it xuno? How do we even say that? Or Gil? Is it Gil? Can we just call you Gil?? I'll wait to hear from you but I must tell you, my boys are ready to drive from NJ to Colorado to pay you a little visit, if you get my drift, so don't wait too long!!
Great pics, by the way. Love the Tanbark sails!

My name? No way!
Where do I wire the $5k to?

Bob23

No wire, cash only. My cousins Vito, Guido and Joey will stop by your place later this week. Make sure you're home...they get "disappointed" when they drive long distances for nothing. Ya don't want to get on their bad side.

What Bob23 doesn't want known is that his "cousins" like coin even more then cash. Just toss a hand full of these down and they'll pounce so fast they won't even count 'em. Once the coin is gone they're easily convinced that you payed in full, of course.

Cash only?

Hmm my printer is out of ink...

Kahn ho, thanks for the clarification, I went ahead and got 5K in coins but I been sitting here watching Tv and I just looked down and noticed I now only have $500 in coins left!

So cash it will have to be just have to fine some ink first. Bob23, what time are they getting here?
