Short Sale

I am really enjoying this year's sailing season because we are keeping Short Sale in a slip at the marina on Lake Wateree near Camden, SC  Here is a picture of her tied up the first day I left her.

It was strange driving down I-20 with an empty trailer behind the tow vehicle.  After getting home, I immediately ordered a sail cover from the wonderful people at Hutchins.  They made certain that the Sunbrella® fabric for the new sail cover was Walnut Brown so it would perfectly match the original tiller cover and motor mount cover.  I took it to my local monogram shop for personalization and I think it looks great!

My First Mate is delighted about the reduced setup and break down times involved in an afternoon of sailing.  As a result, we have been out several times this year and it looks like we are going to have a lot of fun sailing together this season.  I am so thrilled about being back on the water that I just had to get back to this forum and make a post.  Thanks.

(but Long Sail)
pic one looks like a model next to that rip-rap power boat
what year is this fine lady?
the lovely cream color quite inviting
it seems like your sailing pic needs some sail adjustment
so we are out this 4th for a good sail on Lake Clarke

here we are before this season
with a new sail suit in honor of the lady commander's Polish roots

Thanks ameysails,

She is a 1987 Com-Pac 16/II #2454 and I think her colors are nice.  I agree that my sails in the picture could use a better trim.  There was little to no wind the afternoon that my friends took this picture from their pontoon boat.  I am lucky that the sails were not in a complete luff.

Your new set of sails looks great.  May the wind blow better in your neck of the Bay.

Hey Short Sail, we sail our 87' CP16/2 #2508 on the Chesapeake. Congrats on a fine boat if i do say so! We dry sail her so she sits fully rigged on her trailer about 50 yards from the ramp at our marina. We have another boat that lives in the water. Not trailering and setting up and breaking down each time is wonderful is it not! Well it is pretty darn easy to rig a 16 but still!

If ever wishing to explore the bay area give a hollar!

we have in the past come from the Bohemia on a West Wight Potter
where are you sailing your CP 16 on the BAY
is your boom at a fixed height on your mast...or is it able to be adjusted
still trying to determine whose mast/boom (it's fixed...being careful on those tacks and gybes it's right it hat height...TUCK!)
we have on our 1989 16cb

thanks

Hello Murpheys,

We sail out of Locklies Creek and Regent Point Marina.

The boom on the 16 has some adjustment in height with how you adjust the downhaul and topping lift, but you are always gunna have a hat removing experience if not mindful! They have a low aspect ratio main which comes with the nice long boom. Our PSC is a higher aspect rig and thus the boom completes it's arc well in front of the helm. Hey the nice long boom makes for a nice boom tent.  :)

This is my first time in a marina as well and it sure is nice. Even if the weather is too bad to go out I can still hang out on the boat and get a good night's sleep in the slip.
Face your fears. Chase your dreams.

My 16 topping lift is also the main halyard. That means when raising or lowering the main sail, the boom is not supported (I've only dropped the boom on my daughter once).  Is my rigging not set up right?

TMW,

My topping lift is a small diameter line that is threaded though a small hole in the masthead at the top of the mast.  there is a knot that keeps it secured.  The other end of the line connects to the back of the boom.  I have two loops tied into the line so that I can adjust the height of the boom.  Use the lower loop when sailing and the upper loop when motoring or moored.  You can sort of see this topping lift line in the photo.  There is a clasp and shackle that I use for quick connection.  I also have tied a small SC state flag to the topping lift.

Thanks to everyone,

Short Sale

Thanks for the explanation, but I don't think I have a place in the masthead to tie the topping lift.  Anyone have a picture where the topping lift if tied to the masthead?

Here is a not very good picture of my masthead if it helps.

Have pictures but can't deal with the downsizing. Send me an email at theffernan62@gmail.com and I will send pix.
On my 16 there is a small eye bolt on the port side of the masthead. The topping lift attaches to the eyebolt. From your picture, looks like there may be a hole between the two shieves where you could install an eye bolt. I would not try to tap the masthead casting but a small strap on the side of the aluminum mast near the top should work. The load on the topping lift is small.
$UM FUN TOO
