How many of you guys film some of your sailing or follow others that do?

I am wondering about this.  After doing a few videos of my own I am wondering what people like in videos and what people don't like.  I plan to shoot some of my upcoming cruise this year.

I haven't done any videos with me in them.  Personally I can't stand the sight of myself on camera.  I haven't really shot any scenes at the destinations, I just usually shoot short shots of sailing inbetween.  I try to keep the videos shorter.  I haven't shot much of entering a harbor but I have done some shots from my anchor locations.

What do you guys thing?  What are things that should be shot and things that shouldn't be shot?  What makes a good video?

I just bought a good quality Drone....I am looking forward to doing some videos of my Picnic Cat this summer on Cape Cod.

I have discovered over the years that photos are all the same. Hmmm, so, I need a different perspective some times. Not all selfies, not all over the cockpit coaming of waterline. I suspect this is true of videos, also.

I have a monopod, and several mounts for my new camera, and I plan to try making a mast spot to show where I am going, and some other places to put the camera. Maybe several  videos that will later be edited together.

I follow Tom Scott sailing videos and enjoy his sometimes different perspective while sailing his Morgan on Charlotte Harbor, Florida.  He has well over a hundred.  It might be worth looking at some of his.  Sail On

A friend has a good drone and did some vids of my HDC.  he was on shore and was a bit nervous flying over the water.  This vid turned out nice, but there wasn't much wind.  I'd like to shoot some vids following the boat.  I think it's good to get a variety of angles and shots fron different heights.  Not sure if there are any drones out there yeat that are water proof.  My friend says his is toast if it goes in the water.  Which drone did you get?  What happens to it if it lands in the water?

I found a very cool mount that will clip to things securely but easily.  I always have a tether as a back-up.  It will easily attach to the pulpit, pushpit, or stanchions.  I wonder if I could hoist something up the mast while under sail, that could be cool.

My camera also has a wifi feature that links to an app on my phone so I can control the camera remotely.

And where exactly do you get your wifi coverage when you're out on the water? ?

Well...it is more like bluetooth in some ways.  The phone links up remotely to the app.  It is a cool set-up.  You can't do internet with the camera, just use the phone to controll it through an app.

I hope I remember to charge my camera, take it with me, and bring the mounting brackets. That's the main issue I have. Yeah, I made a checklist; now, to just read and follow it, har har.

If you are interested in creating some great footage then I recommend watching the crew of SV Delos on YouTube. They have over 100 videos of their cruising in the Pacific and Indian oceans with all sorts of different shots ranging from drone to underwater. I spent 2 months watching them and am now all caught up.
