Transducer recommendations?

Anyone have recommendations on in hull type transducers? I've decided to do away with the old plastic thru hull transducer and transmitter on my boat and patch and glass over the holes before she goes back in. I've had problems with plastic thru hull fittings on other boats and for peace of mind have decided to eliminate them all together. This will leave me with only one brand new bronze thru hull fitting below the water line used for the ac unit. Thanks!

Hello Blown Away.  I have the same transducer question.  So, I searched the forum for information.  Sadly, the forum shows no replies to your question 14 months ago.  Despite the lack of forum replies, I hope you did collect information and did successfully complete a  depth transducer installation.  If yes, do you mind sharing what you did.  I would like to install a P79 in hull transducer.  I can not decide a best or satisfactory location to mount it to the hull.  The technical data for the P79 says to mount it to fiberglass 5/8 inch thick or less.  I have no idea what the CP23 typical hull thickness is.  I also need to purchase a depth display instrument and I have found few to none that state they will work with a P79 transducer.  The P79 has an 8-pin connector and many of the depth display instruments come with a 4-pin connector.  Did you encounter these same issues?  Were you able to come to a satisfactory end result - a working depth display using an in hull transducer?  Thank you.

Hi Gypsegym. It's been awhile since I've been on the site and apologize for the delay in my response to your question. Other than transom mount transducers I haven't found anything yet. At present I'm looking into the latest and greatest Garmin offers in chartplotters but haven't yet made a decision. Fortunately I'm familiar with the area I sail this boat in and haven't run aground. If I run across something of intrest I'll let you know.

I ended up buying a Raymarine i40 display with a P79 transducer. Though I understand most transducers will work in hull with possibly some loss of max depth readings. Personally, if it's that far down I don't think I'd hit it.

I haven't installed it yet. It's on my "to do" list this year.
