Rename the boat in light of recent events?

So with this divorce I have come to wonder, do I rename the boat??

To me it is not a big deal, and I have a friend that is in the sign business so I could always go over there and design a new logo and such.

Or I leave her so named and continue as it is..........

What do you all think?

Hard for anyone but you to know that answer.  Amicable break with good memories all around, maybe leave it as is.  Contentious split with the name reminding you of that, maybe rename.  Maybe let some time pass before deciding and the answer will become more apparent.

Don't do what I did, buy a boat after you're married, which happened to have the name of a former girlfriend!  That's a definite reason to rename, and make sure there's not even a ghost of the old name faded into the gelcoat!

For what it's worth....No boat of mine ever has been, nor ever will be, named after a person, no matter how close, or important.

Mac: It's up to you. If leaving the name brings back unpleasant memories, change it. If not, leave it. Now for some new  names: How about "Chapter 2"?
I think about you often, my friend and look forward to seeing you and throwing back a few in toast to the future!!

Jason, we're just catching up now on the forum and am sorry to hear about the break-up.  Always a tough situation for all involved.
I know you'll keep your head up and persevere through it.  Often these things have ways of working themselves out for the better in the end.

Everyone is different when it comes to a type of remembrance.  I am finding myself wanting to throw out things like my parents funeral guest signbook and all the little prayer notes, etc , but surely others wouldn't think of such a thing from a loved one.  HTey just aren't important to me.  Soon I will probably get rid of them--I'm not going to use it, have to store them, and they don't do anything except bring up sad memories.  But there are plenty of other little items that were theirs I'll definitely keep that bring good memories. And if I lost them would bring great sadness.   Just like the others are saying it depends.

But with a boat named Together Time, and if in your situation, I'm thinking I would change it to help move along the acceptance stage of the grieving process. Maybe not right away as likely there are bigger things to worry about right now, and it would take me some time to think about a really good name to change it to. But I suppose with that name yes I would want it changed probably sooner than later.  It would gnawl on me.  But if it doesn't bother you, well, why spend the $?

The real questions in my mind is would Neptune/Mercury be OK with this and not deduct sea lives from your record, and will Bob23 charge you his customary boat renaming fee?   I hope the answers are YES--Ok with the name change given the situation, and NO to the fee for the same reasons.

Again, sorry to hear about the split.  You know a bunch of us are here for you of course...call, write if you need us, personally I never know when you are working or asleep so not sure when to call.

Some people name their vessels after life events, for example my own, S'go! Literally a contraction of my life's impetuous Let's go!

Jason, a new name for your 19 could be "Enlightened" or maybe the more Germanic "Das Blitzen" .  Just sayin.
