Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.  I picked up a 1983 Compac 16 a few weeks ago and am getting ready to get back on the water.  It was missing a few parts when I picked it up to include the for-stay turnbuckle. The previous owner tried to thread a home depot turnbuckle body on to the existing stay end but the threads don't match and it won't work. Does anyone know the thread size or where I can get a replacement turnbuckle? I've inquired with Compac and they are looking into it.

Thanks for the help!

I think I figured out how to attach pictures.  This is what I am looking to replace.  I have two good ones and need a third. Any info would be very helpful.

I seem to recall they are 1/4-28 threads, but please don't take this as the gospel.  I've sold my 16 years ago and am going from an old and fading memory :)

If you get confirmation this is the right size, then this is probably the part you need:

I like using defender as they have great prices and service, but note they charge shipping.  If you add more items the shipping cost per item becomes much lower.  I'm sure you can find some other things you'll need.

Definitely don't use hardware store stuff on any part of your rigging.  Bad news for sure...

Good luck,

Tanks for the info. Matt Hutchins ended up having the part in stock in Clearwater.

Yeah, I needed just the barrel part of the turnbuckle--looking like the one shown above--for one of my "Foundling's" side shrouds, and the good folks at Hutchins/Com-Pac got one to me by the weekend: $30.50 delivered.  They were also kind enough to toss in few complimentary "ring-dings", which came in handy today.  With a bit of luck, her first mast raising in over a decade should be tomorrow...well on track for the long-planned first splash with yours truly at the helm next month.

By the way, welcome aboard!  I'm a bit of a noob too, and have found this forum extremely helpful.  I'm sure you will too.

I hope your first underway goes well! I bought my 16 in St. Simmons, GA but am about to do a military move out to San Diego.  I plan on making my first sail in Mission Bay in Southern California. Right now I am focusing on getting the few parts I need from Hutchins like a boom and this turnbuckle as well as getting the trailer ready for a 2600 mile road trip. New hubs/bearings etc.
