Early Eclipse Questions

It appears that the Eclipse was introduced around 2005.  Were there any initial bugs or problems with the early boats that I should be concerned about? I am considering a 2005 boat and this would help me in making a decision?
Also, what is the difference between in an Eclipse and an Eclipse SL?
TIA!

My understanding was that the Eclipse started production in 2004 after the 19 molds were worn out and not usable anymore.
I bought 2005 hull number 23 in 2012 and sailed her in WI and FL for 6 years, the last 4 of it was outside 24/7 on a lift in SW Florida.  She held up fine except the teak trim needed re-done with Cetol every year.

I'm not sure what changes were made in the 20 year production run of the Eclipse. There was a diesel model but not sure how many of those were built.  The SL was to show that it was sloop rig unlike most of the other smaller boats at the time that were cat rigged.  Bit of marketing that started a couple of years after the sales of the boats.

Great boat, I used mine as a day sailer.  The only issues that I had were the rudder up/down system was wonky, and the owners manual was woefully uninformative. I've not seen any systemic issues about the Eclipse, just know that it isn't huge inside.  I never spent a night in mine.

Like all other boats, some will have developed issues over time depending on usage and maintenance.   the only thing that matters is current condition and finding things that wear out over time.  Everything on the boat was easily replaceable.  Not so sure with the factory shutdown about the availability of some proprietary fittings on the boats that Com-pac had made or made themselves.  Take a close look at railings, rudder control arm, rear arch, etc.  Very expensive to replace that stuff.

Good Luck.

Captain,
Thanks for the thoughtful and valuable first-hand info on the Eclipse.  An entry in the first paragraph caught my eye where you mentioned keeping it on a lift. Did you have any concern or problem about possible oil-canning of the hull with that setup?  Very curious as I have a lift but have seen and heard of other boats being damaged when lift kept.  I am planning to take a look at a 2005 model that is being offered. Your advice will help me focus on areas where a careful examination is advised.
