It is a shame that the Com-Pac company wasn't purchased by someone or some company.  Perhaps it did not pencil-out as a profitable business to any prospective buyers.  Ironically, companies producing boats of less quality continue to do enough business to survive. I would guess that price is a major issue attributing to the decision to not continue making these great boats. 
The golden age of sailboat manufacturing occurred in the 1960s and 70s.  Without precise records, a conservative estimate is 50–75 sailboat manufacturers in North America during the 1970s, with the U.S. contributing the majority.  While there are approximately 20–40 active sailboat manufacturers in North America today.
