new rudder and bushings

When I went to the hardware store to pickup some stainless bolts, I saw these wire lock pins (very similar to this: http://www.pivotpins.com/catalog/WireLk.shtml).
I picked them up and now use them to hold my rudder on.

Anybody else use these?

One embarassing story with the use of these.
I was launching the boat and forgot to lift the rudder. While backing, the trailer, the rudder grounded, the springs opened and the rudder popped off and fell in the water. It was quickly retrieved with a handy boat hook. I like to think that they saved the boat from damage. Of course, they make me think that I should wire them a bit more securely too.

Those pin are designed to hold the coupler on a typical trailer hitch down. Used in place of a padlock. They fit very tight into the hole, be it 7/8 or 2" dia. ball hitchskip.
