2-15-25: Gerry Hutchins, founder of Com-Pac, has crossed the bar and headed west.

Sincere condolences to his family, and a huge "Thank You!" to Gerry from all of us, I'm sure.

Hi,

For those of us who don't use Facebook, can you let us know where those Suncats are located?  Looking for a fairly close one.

Thanks

Hey, Bryan ~

Normally, I'm not on Facebook either, and my account is deactivated 99% of the time; I only "reactivated" it to boat shop. It seems, more and more, people are only listing on Facebook Marketplace instead of other places such as Craigslist, sailboatsforsale dot com, sailboatlistings dot com, and also sailingtexas dot com. Which, with sailingtexas dot com, it is not active with updated listings, currently, as the woman who maintains the website is having health issues, I believe, very sadly.

Like CPYOA member soilgod mentions, you can see the FB ad as it's public, however, in order to get more info or interact with the seller, you have to have a FB account. I used to ask my friends who had Facebook accounts to reach out on my behalf, but then I decided I must, reluctantly, reactivate.

If you want, I am happy to reach out to sellers of boats on Facebook for you -- just let me know. :-)

 Thanks,

I joined Facebook about a year ago to browse marketplace.  I did only that, didn't add friends, nothing, and they locked me out for good, after 3 days, claiming I was a bot.  I guess I wasn't social enough.
No great loss.

It is strange the lack of local Com-pac boats.  When I arrived here 12 years ago there were at least a dozen.

There is a very old 16, looks in great shape, been asking $8K, over near Boca Grande, that has been for sale on Craigslist for a year.  Lot of cash for an old 16. I'd prefer a newer centerboard design, even for twice the money.

Waiting for the weather to cool off and I will be cleaning up and putting my trimaran on the market, and then a casual search for the next, slower, boat.

The journey continues.

Bryan, that has happened to me as well, before -- but on Instagram (owned by Facebook/Meta, I believe). It is extremely frustrating and one of the reasons why I tend to stay away from those platforms as much as I can -- amongst other reasons I won't delve into here. Anyhow, I get it and am with you on all that.

I monitor the Com-Pac used market on a daily basis using the searchtempest dot com tool. It's not so straight-forward, tho, because, often times, people are spelling COM-PAC in several variations, which makes it a bit challenging. Some people even omit Com-Pac (or a variant of the name) and just say, for example, "Sun Cat" -- so if you search for a variation of Com-Pac, that Sun Cat is not coming up in your search results under the designated "Com-Pac" parameters.

Anyhow, having said the above, the searchtempest dot com tool displays results regionally -- Central U.S., Eastern U.S., and West Coast, U.S. I can see what you mean about how there are not as many Com-Pacs out East -- in Florida, especially -- and I do know of that $8k Com-Pac 16 you made mention of -- I had seen that listing a long time ago, and now it's back.

Sending you a PM to continue to conversation off this thread.
