I'm a new Compac owner. I just bought this 23 pilothouse that was built by Keith Scott of the Sailboat Company. He had it set up as a motor cruiser but his son Donald had a mast and boom and sails so I am contemplating turning it into a motor sailer. Thanks for letting me join!

Welcome, Jack!!! What a beautiful boat -- Keith did amazing work! Would love to see some pics of the interior, too, if you have some to share! I bought my former 2013 Com-Pac 23 MK IV from him -- he was, indeed, a dear mentor of mine and I miss his guidance so much. Looking forward to hearing you progress on making your boat ready for some motor-sailing! Fair winds! ~ Chelle

Hello Jack, You have a beautiful Pilot House!  Welcome to the forum!

I sent you a private message as well to ask a question about your boat.

Here is a picture of the interior-what little there is. My plan is to do cushions for the v berth and port settee and somehow add a small sink and a passenger seat. There is no solid cabin back. It is a canvas curtain. So I also need to craft a cabin back and entry.SJ Mason- I have seen no private message, Please try again. Thanks!

Wow! That is a neat pic of the cabin/interior, Jack -- thanks for sharing that! Keith was so inventive and creative! Did you know that he also converted some Com-Pac 16s into pilothouses as well? I see one of them come up, once in a blue moon, on the Interwebs. Right now, his son, Donald, is trying to sell a Sun Cat that Keith had converted to a sloop -- very interesting mod!

Curious, what year is your boat and did you buy the boat from Donald or someone else that had the boat before you? I recall Keith's dealership/boatyard was in Richlands, so not too far from where you are in New Bern, I believe? The First Mate and I would love to live out your way -- we have a horse farm, though, so finding property zoned for animals that's near a maritime area is next to impossible, as we've been learning in our searches.

Hope you'll keep us posted on your adventures with the boat!

Fair winds!

Chelle:

I bought the boat from Donald. The hull is a 1985. He had a Compac 16 pilothouse still on the lot.I saw the Sun Cat as well.
Have you looked for land in the Bridgton area? I know there are people with horse properties around there. And you are still near the River and 35 minutes from Oriental.

Hi, Jack!

Thank you for the tip regarding the Bridgton area -- I will definitely look into this!

I wish that I had had the chance to go to Keith's boatyard -- I was actually scheduled to visit him in Richlands in April of 2024, but he took ill and then later passed. I was (and still am!) heartbroken over his loss! He was such a valuable member of the sailing community -- not to mention the Com-Pac community.
