What are the preferred sailmakers in Florida for Com-Pac owners?

Hi,

I have a full batten main on my Corsair 750 Trimaran, it is required to hold sail shape with the high performance hull and high roach main that the boat has. This boat cruises effortlessly at 10-12 knots.

I'm not sure a full batten main will make much of a difference on an Eclipse. It looks racy but I would question if it helps performance on a low performance hull. You would be lucky to get an Eclipse to exceed 6kts.

Not sure who is still around as North has bought a lot of sail lofts.

may still be functioning in Tampa, St.Pete, Stuart, Miami.

Cost will depend on cloth desired.

Good luck!

I would be happy to get 5 knots.  I am clearly not looking for speed with an Eclipse but simply wish to maximize what the boat is capable of.  Several Eclipse sailors---particularly two in Australia---contend that the stock sails on the Eclipse are too small and that the boat performs better with more sail area and better sails.  I prefer fully battened mainsails for several reasons such as easier handling, better shape and improved performance.  Quite a big leap you made from an Eclipse to high performance tris.  I have been up and down the multihull road during my years of sailing.  At this point in my life, I just wish to have a good, little boat to play with and to set it up to perform at the highest level it is capable of.  Five knots, ten knots, 15 knots.  It is all relative to the boat you are sailing and how you are sailing it.

Hi

Once I sailed a friend's Corsair I was sold.  The upgrade from the Eclipse was made easier with his tutoring.
The Eclipse is a great design and I think it is very successful in doing what it was designed to do.  Same with the Corsair.  I sail it solo so it is a bit more of a chore to get it main up and set for sailing than the Eclipse.  The speed is addictive as I'm sure you are aware.

I really enjoyed my Eclipse as it was perfect for day sailing solo or with my wife and daughter. When the Corsair is too much as I age, I may buy another Eclipse or a Legacy, if I can find one for sale.

I have a friend in Sydney who has an Olson 30. I can ask him about a sailmaker refer if you need one.

Better sails and better sail shape makes a boat more efficient - not necessarily faster at the top end; more efficient in light air and on all angles.

The stock sails are terrible. Our new fully battened sails on the Eclipse allow us to achieve proper sail trim/twist. Now we can point up wind in 15kts against a reasonable swell doing 5kts. We had no chance of that with the old sails.

In regards to 6kts...we regularly exceed that, even with the old sails.

Check out our YouTube Channel and take a look at the new sails we put on a CP16...we turned that little boat into a rocket ship!

Hey Sailor Dog,
Are you one of the guys who tried to capsize a Com_Pac 16?  That was hilarious fun and proof of its amazing stability.  I look forward to viewing your YouTube channel.

Yep, that's me.

We've since tried again in serious conditions and under sail (not filming that day however)...she just pops back up like a rocket. Just make sure you've got the washboards in and that boat will go anywhere. Our next test will be with the Eclipse; slightly less ballast ratio but we keep around 100kg of fresh water in the bilge...so I reckon she'll behave similar to the CP16.
