Hello everyone!
I hope one of you can help me a question about the throttle on my 1986.
The throttle  will not stay where I set it. If I set it to 2600 rpm. In a few minutes it will back down close to idle.
Has anyone seen this before and how do I fix it?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

If you remove your binnacle compass (first use strips of blue masking tape and a marker to note the exact alignment), you will expose the throttle and shift cable connections to the levers. There are set screws you can tighten to adjust the tightness of the levers, and thereby prevent slippage.

Look at the bottom of this photo - the throttle set screw is the hex head bolt:

Hope that's helpful

Hey Bobbar:
I went a little lower tech, until I get around to repairing and painting my pedestal.  I made a slipknot in a short pice of line, actually a hangman's knot, around the pedestal guard.  When motoring I slip it over the throttle and adjust it to the proper rpm.

Thanks Wes! That is what I will try!
Charlie I have a piece one wrap Velcro that I use similar to what you describe.
Thanks to you both for the help!
