News:

2-15-25: Gerry Hutchins, founder of Com-Pac, has crossed the bar and headed west.

Sincere condolences to his family, and a huge "Thank You!" to Gerry from all of us, I'm sure.
Requiescat in pace.

I don't know if this message will go through, but I'm giving it a try.  As a new member, I mainly wanted to read posts from anyone who knew more than me and had found answers for the same questions I had.  AFTER that, I wanted to post my own questions or answers .  By FAR, figuring out how to post something has been the most confusing thing that has happened to me "on-line" since the beginning of my "computer" life.  I'm 67 years old and have been sailing for 45 years.  I'm quite computer literate, but had a terrible time finding the right "page" for instructions on posting a "letter". Just when I thought I had it figured out, the description in the instructions would not match the looks of the page I was SENT to.  I wish someone with good computer skills would redesign the site, so as not to intimidate we members that would like to contribute, but give up trying and just read the posts from everyone else; hoping someone writes about the same problems we are having.
Thanks.  Sorry to go on a "rant", but I've been holding this IN a long time.

you did it - it worked.

Just go to the forum you want to post in and click on "new topic".

Hey Gunslinger:
"There ain't a room on this site for the both of us and I ain't a gonna leave." Actually, there's plenty of room for all of us and welcome to the site. So what Compac are you sailing now? Where do you sail?

Hi again,
Thanks for not taking me for the crank I sounded like---it was just the heat of the moment and I should have cooled down first.
To get on,  I have a 1997 Compac 27/2 that I (my wife and I) bought last month in Florida.  We still own our W.D. Shock "Santana 20/23" C which is trailerable, water ballast, swing keel and rudder, cruiser model with private head and lots of interior teak.  It is a great boat for shallow water and points to within 30degrees of the wind.  We have sailed the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior,  Annapolis to Key West on the ICW, Gulf side and Atlantic side of Florida many times and numerous fresh water lakes.  All that sounds great, but the danged boat still made me get on my knees to pull up my pants in the morning.  I've spent thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars investigating, analyzing and cataloging every 26' to 30' shallow draft boat with TRUE standing headroom out there. Most were too expensive, too new to be affordable, didn't really have standing headroom throughout for someone 5'11" tall, were poorly built, had too much windage, or tried to be everything-including a speedboat with a mast.  The Compac 27/2 is everything I wanted except that it can't point very high--but like my wife said after motoring directly into the wind for 3 long days---"Next time, we go where the wind wants to take us".  Thanks again to you all.

depending on your tow rig you can trailer the compac 27 fairly easily.  When traveling farther from home I have used coast2coasttruckingpermits.com, though I call them directly.  Once you change the mast base the mast can be raised with an A frame and block and tackle.  Im using a 4.1 though a 6.1 would be ideal.  I have been using a very robust triple axle trailer but have been thinking about building a tandem axle trailer with 7k lb drop or torsion axles to open up more launching possibilities.  Tow rig is a 2001 F250 Powerstroke with just basic mods.

Whoa`up there Gunslinger23, Now if you have a specific question I'll walk you thru it either by a general post or a private message. Questions?

I'm finding that during two secessions of several thousands of posts each over six~maybe seven years that this site called Com-Pac Yacht Owners Association is by far the easiest site I have found to use. I cherish the ease. I asked other sites I frequent to use this format. So far nothing. Much better then Yahoo's Com-Pac site.

The very fact that the posts can be corrected by the author, [ just click on 'Modify Message ], spell checked [ I use ieSpell and boy does that work well ], plus photos added via Photobucket are easy to post [ you can even post pictures to the right, center, or left in the message. How cool is that? ], but having said that... as the wife just said, "Something is easy to do only if you know how to do it." How true.

She just received a new computer with Windows 8 [all those box's to use...] and is going through the teething problems as we speak. [She's so smart] can't say that too loud...

As one can see all the different ways to change-up the font.

Again "I's luv's the site". Thank you site administrators...

...I also found that all these antivirus Norton's and such can be done away with and just download and register for free 'Avast'. It's always free even though Avast will ask you to buy something after 365 days...don't do it...

skip.

This is a vey nice boat. During the All Sailboat Show at Navy Pier in Chicago I tagged along with several salesmen from a competitor to Hutchins and the general consensus from that group of folks was that the Com-Pac was a better boat then theirs. HoooHaaa!

Gun:
No problem...we're all dealing with our own humanity! I more than anyone here, have shot my mouth off in the past and had to deal with the fallout...and apologize. Don't give it another thought.
I'm short- only 3' 10" so I have standing headroom in my 23. Yeah...I wish! I love my 23 and it really suits me fine but to stand up like a 21st. century human being would be nice too. The Compac 25 has standing headroom and is trailerable but, to my eye she isn't very pretty and I hear doesn't sail very well. Although the 25 owners here love thier boats.
I had a chance to sail aboard a friends 27 a few years ago. When he put her up for sale, I have it more than a second thought. But, I'm a cheapskate and will not be enslaved to a marina- I moor my 23 and trailer her home in the fall.
  Again, welcome aboard!
