Hello everyone,

Can anyone give me advise on pricing my 1992 CP16? She has roller furling, galvanized trailer, 2006 Tohatsu 4hp fourstroke with less than 10 hours, and a new mainsail (as well as the still usable original).

Any advise will be much appreciated!

I can tell you that a neglected 1989 on our lot has a value of around 3100 bucks.

No roller furler, and trailer needs work, along with the boat.

Dave,
Have you seen the boat and trailer? If you can make a good inspection;determine what expenses you will have to be ready to sail, you will be in a better bargaining position. NADA has the high retail about $3100. Since you won't find many '92 and newer on the market, NADA is probably low.
If the condition of boat, trailer and motor is excellent, $4500 to $5000 is not unreasonable.

I have a similar motor ('99 Nissan) on my 16. It is a little heavy for the 16. I think it is 57 pounds , but fairly quiet, clean and nice to have reverse.
$UM FUN TOO

Hello Dave:
We paid $2250 two years ago for an 1989 C-16II on eBay.
Have spent close to $1200 on sails, tires, rudder and stuff.

Sailing for the past two seasons, Priceless.

PS It is worth what you are willing to pay, no more, no less,

Plugging your data into a hedonistic pricing model that I put together based on the asking prices at Sailingtexas (http://cpyoa.geekworkshosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=2892.0), I come out with an average asking price of $4,274 for a 1992 in great condition, with a range of $3,668 to $4,881. I'm not sure where you are located, but if you're in the south and it is still sailing season I would put an asking price of $5,000 on it. If you're in the north, maybe $4,500, or wait for spring and ask $5,000.

I appreciate all the feedback. I am located on the coast of North Carolina. I was thinking about waiting until Spring to put her up for sale, and $4500 was what I was thinking. Again, thanks!

The asking price will be higher but the selling price will be some where around $2,500 for a CP-16. Unless your buying a centerboard in the keel one.
The engine is superfluous. IMHO.
You never pay too much, just buy too soon.

"  ...was due to the newer motor..So much for that theory, eh? "

Well it is amazing what people toss in the trash...I offer this. It was froze up but only with 'gunk' runs great now...It cost nothing, but a pile of research, a complete tear down, a gasket set, a coil assembly, a rubber hand grip, cost of decals, a set of 'Perfect Circle Rings', a little body work on the sheet metal, paint and a prop. It ain't worth anything but it is neat. Model 'B' about 1911 to about 1915. It's a wee bit older then my 1930 Ford Model 'A' 40-B roadster.

Fortunately, I've already been offered over $3k, and a big part of that offer was due to the newer motor..So much for that theory, eh?

Thanks though!
