Has anyone had any any experience with Silent Running coating?http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|311|302333&id=532535  It sounds (sic) like just the thing for refreshing the engine/cockpit compartment.

it's a while since you inquired about this product; have you used it yet? Any experience to share?

Thanks, Salty, good to be back. My vintage CP-27 got some damage during Irene last year and as a result has been on the hard from winter to early summer. besides repairs, I used the time for some upgrades and overdue maintenance. Over the last weeks, I had a couple of very nice sail trips - light, but steady winds on the Chesapeake - and will continue with my rolling upgrade program.

Yes I did use Silent Running on my engine compartment this year when we replaced the m12 engine with a Yanmar 3YM20. I don't think that I can recommend it. It has stayed soft and is easily damaged although I did try to let it cure sufficiently. I painted it over with bilge paint which did help to protect it. I found it incredibly messy to use. I used it in the engine compartment on the stringers but not the engine bed and the starboard bulkhead and some areas of the lazarette compartment including the hatches. I can't really comment on it's sound dampening qualities since I also replaced the engine the sound it very different than it used to be. My husband who didn't work directly with it but witnessed me using agrees saying "yeah I think it is crap", so there you go. Good luck!
