One thing I would suggest is maybe wrapping it in vinyl after all parts have been stripped off.
I would use a quality vinyl that has a 12 year life span. And by vinyl I am talking about graphics shops vinyl.
When I had my graphics company we used to buy Oracal vinyl. Top grade, by the roll.
Great stuff, lasted a long time, and no need but to wash the underneath off.

Otherwise, Awlgrip is a product I have seen people use at work, and even seen people use Interlux Brightsides paint.... one guy painted his whole rig yellow.......... wow.......

Anyway, I know this is a old post, but figured I would throw in my 2 cents worth.
I might try that vinyl on my spreaders...... hmmm........ just have to get  a hold of my old suppliers......

WD 40 and a scotch brite pad will make the aluminum look like new.

Hummm, isn't the aluminum anodized?
Don't scratch off this protective coating with a 3M scratch pad.
Mequires #49 for polishing up after a good soap cleaner, or aluminum brightener, then a couple coats of Mother's automotive wax.
a lot of elbow grease.
