Congrats on the new boat!  That's about the same time of year I picked up my 2013 Legacy.

They make nice, affordable, easy to launch and sail day sailers. The seats are a bit low, so I find myself sitting at on top of my throwable flotation cushion a lot for comfort. But aside from that I really like my Legacy for a good solid value in a small boat. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it is simple and stable once you get past the initial tenderness. I hope you have a fun season getting to know the boat and the area!

I as well. But I am going in knowing that, as far as sailing characteristics, the M15 is a tough boat to beat. I understand that both boats would sail like dinghys and the skipper needs to be active, hands-on.

I based my decision to go with the Legacy partly on the SCA review wherein a Monty sailor was providing some of the feedback to SCA. I also know a Legacy owner in the Potter Yacthers and he took his boat everywhere the rest of us went..Potter 15 and 19, Compac Suncat, Monty 15 and 17, and O'day 192. So I have no doubt about seaworthiness for what I want to do...lakes and protected coastal waters.

The other part of my decision was to trade off  the luxurious sleeping room (no compression post) of the M15 V-berth for a configuration down below that would allow me to sit/lean down below to duck out of unexpected bad weather or take care of other 'business'. As comfy as the M15 was laying down, there was no place just to sit for awhile. I opted out of cabin cushions for the extra 2" of headroom and will use an inflatable camp pad when I need it.  Also thinking about making a boom tent, and getting some platform bed slats that I can cut to size and roll out in the cockpit with a pad on top to sleep outside. The gallows should make a nice frame for a tent on the stern end.

I was able to sit in another Legacy owner's boat (but not sail one) so I know exactly what to expect as far as seating comfort in the cockpit and below, and I agree, a cockpit cushion or two will be in order. I understand the trade-off of the footwell being more shallow in order to provide room for the coffin berths down below.

Most of my sailing will be for the day, so quick rig and launch was at the top of my list, and the Boomtendr feature is an attractive  proposition. If not for that, and the wider cabin house, I might have been looking for a CP16 MK3 to still get the CB.

For someone that has the budget for a premium-build vessel, Sage Marine has some nice options. And like Hutchins, they are a solid organization. But for me it came down to a perception that, at least for a new boat, the Legacy should provide me with the best overall value for dollar, for what I need.

Can't wait for sea trials....

It sounds like you really did your homework, and know what the Legacy can, and cannot do for you. Since you know its limitations and have set your expectations correctly, my guess is you'll have many years of sailing joy with the little Legacy. Good luck with it!

I'm also excited to be getting my Legacy out soon again after the short winter. I live in Delaware but hope to attend the West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron (west coast of Florida) trip. It's mid March to Cayo Costa on Charlotte Harbor FL for a 3-5 day trip. What a nice way to shake off winter!

Nice write up - legacy sounds great - not to mention I think it's about 1/2 the price of a new Sage 15 - looking to hearing from you once you get your new boat wet

The Cayo Costa trip sounds great but of course too soon for me.

I also have toyed with the idea of going to the B.E.E.R. cruise in June, but that as well might have to wait one more year.
