OK, I can understand waiting to the last minute to pull your boat but this guy really missed the cues.  I will drive down to the boat launch later and see if it is still there.

Well, there are many skippers out there that buy a big boat that needs constant attention and have neither the skill nor resources to provide proper maintenance. We also know that one error often leads to a series of problems that quickly escalate to a disaster. That is fairly common here in Florida where inexperienced folks try to live out their dream. Luckily there aren't more tragedies.

How nice would that have been if it were a trailer ComPac, right there next to the boat ramp?

A fella bought a 30 footer (?) in Bristol, PA on the Delaware River last year and attempted to sail it to New York!!! He never made it out of the Delaware Bay. I'm told the skipper had little experience, but figured, "how hard could it be?" Apparently it was a total loss.  I had seen the boat many times on its mooring while walking my lab and it sure looked real nice. What a shame.

I'm taking the ASA classes.  My only experience before the Compac 16 I just bought was on a 14ft day runner.  I hope to move up to a 35ft someday, but am going to make SURE I know what I'm doing before I get the larger boat, and spend the money.  Half of wisdom is knowing you're ignorant, right?

Rambling - I'd say you are certainly off on the right foot for many years of enjoyable sailing. I see many folks getting in trouble because they treat sailing as if it were the same as driving their car. Well, it's pretty hard to pull off the road when you're sinking. Enjoy and be safe.

Ah wisdom.....we were too dumb to know we didn't even know how to sail when we got our first boat....a CP16. In spite of that small detail we enjoyed sailing for almost 10 years....before we stopped. Twenty-five years later and you would think the wisdom would have come, but no.....let's just get an even larger boat since we have so much experience, and where were our friends to save us from this.....offering to help us move her to her new home! Meanwhile another 16 is now our classroom.....while Interlude, the time in-between.
