Boom Gallows?

These cold, rainy Saturdays tend to find me daydreaming about projects for the boat.

I've been contemplated installing permanent boom gallows on my CP16 for ease of trailering.  Then I took a look at the legacy.  What do you think about putting a boom gallow/traveler system on a CP16?  I'm thinking of using stanchion bases and 1" ss tubing to make the arch.  It'd get the current mainsheet set up out of the way of the motor, and hopefully have smoother action (as it is now, the mainsheet binds on the bulls eye by the cam cleat.

It'd also make a nice mount for a full Bimini/dodger/cockpit tent.

Do you think it'd be worth the effort?

I designed a boom gallows for my 16 and recently for my CP19.  The boom gallows for the 16 I made out of solid aluminum rods.  I made it so the boom gallow would fold down while sailing, allowing me to continue to use the the stern mounted mainsheet block system. Also, with the gallows down it would be a nice backrest/sternrail.



The boom gallows on my 19 is a bit simpler.

That's a nice looking setup. Similiar to what I had in mind.  Do you have a picture of the 16 gallows?

What are your thougts moving the traveller and sheeting off to the gallows?  Obviously you'd need 2 uprights to distribute the load.
