It saddens me to part with Seute Deern, my 1993 23/3.  I had every intention of restoring it but with the constraints of time in my life, I have to part with it.  The boat needs a complete refit and much of the interior wood has been taken out due to water damage.  She sits on a 1989 Magic Tilt trailer.  I'm in the Tampa area so if anyone is looking for a good project/parts boat and working trailer (with 2 brand new tires), let me know.  Boat and trailer go together and I'd entertain a reasonable offer.

Well, it looks like plans have changed and I'm going to keep the boat!  In fact, I've already started gutting the water damaged interior and will go right down to the fiberglass. My plan is to completely rebuild the interior, modifying the layout and even glassing in the hull/deck joint since I now have easy access to almost all of it from the interior.

Good for you! Go for it. I own a 1985 23/2 and while I have no plans to do as extensive a refit as you have planned, while I'm down below, I do dream of a more efficient interior. I dreamt up a C -shaped structural beam that could be installed in place of the original structural bulkhead to allow full open access on one side of the boat while still transferring the mast load to the keel. It would work, got the idea from using some structural beams in the construction projects that I work on.

Good luck on the project. Starting with a clean slate, the possibilities are endless! I've always thought the 23/2 were the nicest. Larger portlights than the mark 2 but still maintained all the bronze instead of the stainless found on the mark 4.

Keep up posted...photos are always appreciated.

The starboard bulkhead is already removed and it really opened up the cabin. I'm thinking about a completely open cabin with a compression post. Taking the boat apart really gives me an appreciation for how it was built.

One huge advantage to Compac is having the Owners in the company that are so willing to talk to the owners of the boats.  The customer support is second to none!

If you make structural modifications I would speak to Compac and talk to the builders about them.  They may have suggestions or say that something will be a workable idea or not.

I live less than an hour away from Hutchins and will certainly speak to them. I've heard nothing but good things about the company. The refit is occurring because the interior had a lot of standing water in it for an extended time and almost everything is rotted. In taking the boat apart, I can see how it was put together; what is tabbed to the hull and what isn't. The concrete in the keel got wet and I need to decide whether to take it out or try to dry it as much as possible and re-seal it. There appears to be about a half a yard of concrete in there. A long term project for sure!
