Hey everyone!

First of all, just wanted to say hello as I haven't really been active lately. I have been keeping up on things though, and thoroughly enjoy this forum. I am on here more than my FaceBook for sure.

Anyway, I wanted to let the Christmas card folks know that this year really blew by my wife and I. I had no idea Retail was this bad this time of year, and it brought us long hours, and many days in a row, with little time off. Days off are spent sleeping and doing laundry and what little dishes we had since we ate out a lot. With the way people behave, you would think folks would die without the items they purchase. An interesting beast overall, and a real eye opener for myself.

I am starting a new position in Operations on January 9th. I will be helping to run the store instead of just the Auto Care Center. I was put in charge of a smaller store by myself one day (having never even worked inside one) and did really well, that I was entrusted with my store which does 2.3 times the volume of the little store for a half day, which I did well at as well.

All these changes have kept me really busy overall.

My wife and I went to the boat the other day. I cant keep my hands off it, I love boats. I had some things I wanted to do to it, so I did that, and checked her out. Whomever buys her up is really going to enjoy her. She is really well outfitted.

I still have to put it for sale on some sites besides this one, just haven't had the time to do so really even though it doesn't take long.......... I could be dragging my feet a little too maybe.

Anyway, I am enjoying the posts, and the communications here. It is great seeing all the goings on, as we all hunker down for winter.

Keep up the good work everyone, and God Bless!
Merry Christmas, and a Happy NEW YEAR!

I've missed your posts, but understand completely.  Hopefully you'll get some rest after the holiday rush.  The more you realize that it's the quality moments on Together Time that count, not the quantity, the more you'll want to keep  her.

I've also missed your posts! It was one of the high points of the year (and last year) to attend CLR and meeting you and Ginger was a blast! I felt an instant friendship with you and despite the distance, hope it continues for many years.
By the way- you will never sell your boat! I've put the word out in cyberland what a bomb it really is and that it's really only a foam and cardboard mockup of a real Compac 19! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! See you at CLR 2016!!!!!!!!!!!  Ahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!
Best to you and Ginger in 2016...and beyond! May the force be with you!!!! And may your beer always be cold!

Mac, Don't be in too big of a rush to sell her. There is a lot of you and Ginger in that boat! Even if you don't use her a lot, Tim is right, it is the quality not the quantity of time you spend aboard that counts. Consider this: Together Time may be exactly what you need at this stressful time of your life. As long as you have her she will be a beacon out there calling to you. A constant reminder, that there are more important things in life than work and the daily grind. Owning a boat is more than time of use. There is a kind of peace owning a boat brings to a stressful life that cannot be quantified. The effect of just knowing she is there, waiting, an escape from the hustle bustle of everyday life if you need her cannot be overestimated!

let me throw in a dime's worth of incite here. first, if you really need the money (we have all been there) consider selling something else. or doing without something else. together time is indeed a part of you two. there are other boats and other cp 19s but only one "together time". she holds past memories and the promise of more in the future. for a number of years sarah and i spent time on the water, in a number of different sailboats. during that time we eventually learned to "sail". it took more time to overcome our "amprehension" than most i think. once that was achieved it opened up a whole new world of sailing. now a little "puff" doesnt translate into a white knuckle ride. now we push her to her limit (well ours) and end up smiling wide as a result. i would love it if you and ginger would keep her another season and maybe just maybe you will have the time to sail together and gain that feeling of oneness with your boat. you have good buddies who can share their knowledge. as much as we love "audrey j" we are not near as a part of her as "together time" is for you and ginger. regardless you are always welcome at the CLR. what would it be without you?   excuse me while i wipe my tears------

Mac:
Being the self proclaimed big mouth of the forum, I must throw in my 2 cents. First to anyone reading this, and it should be obvious: My comments about Mac's Compac 19 are totally false! It's as fine a 19 as I've ever seen and worth every dollar.
But I can echo Craig and Kick. I toss around selling my 23 every fall and Lord knows I could use the money. But then I realize all the fun I've had and that I can't measure life in $. You may need to sell, I don't know. Maybe you just think you won't get time to use it. But if you sell, you will never get a chance to sail it!
Anyway, may 2016 be a wonderful one for you and Ginger.

Mas

I have never had the pleasure of meeting you  but have read many of your thoughtful and informative posts. I must echo Bob23's observations. All of the previous owners of our little Compac 23 regretted selling her. It is always true that you cannot miss something until it's gone, so it appears the best way to not miss something is to hold on to her, true for women and our boats. I always regretted selling our CP16 25 years ago, though I knew we could not sail her like we used to at that time. In fact we are trying to track her down again and hoping she has a good home. :)

My opinion might not be relevant, but I will be supportive of your decision either way.  I used to rock climb regularly, and had a very nice lead rack (when climbing up a wall where there are no existing ropes, one has to put cams and other devices in cracks in the rocks to hold the rope up if the climber would fall; these are components in the lead rack).  After a few years of not climbing, I sold my rack to a friend of a friend, with the mindset that it wasn't fair to the equipment to keep it in my basement without being used.  If the equipment had feelings, the best thing was to pass it along to someone who would get more enjoyment from it.

If you are on the Eastern shore and want to sail in a CP-16, I'd be happy to take you out or loan you my boat.

The one thing about our boats is that they are trailer sailors.  You can put the boat in your yard or driveway and it literally costs you NOTHING to keep it.  Think about it, things will not always be this way and, eventually, you will start getting your time back.  When you do there will be a void there.

Your boat can sit for a bit.  If you sell quickly then you may regret it in the near future when you go to replace her and have to start again, from scratch, on a new boat.

It is Cheaper to keep her!!!!

You can put the boat in your yard or driveway and it literally costs you NOTHING to keep it.

Not necessarily it depends on the local covenants and/or city regulations.  For instance, I cannot keep a boat in my driveway and cannot keep it in the back yard if it can be seen from the road due to local covenants.  I personally think that is akin to heresy, however, I'm planning to move so it doesn't matter.

In 48 years of sailing I've owned four sailboats.  I have liked each of them and each of them was right for the times and fit my life situation at the time.  I have fond memories of each of them but don't miss them and would not repurchase any of them even though several of them have been available for sale when I was between boats.  So if it is not right for you to own it now, keep the memories and be assured another memory maker will be in your future.

im sure everyone here has owned some item that they sold and later regretted it. years ago (maybe 35) i had a 37 chevrolet 1/2 ton pu. come to think of it i bought it just before i got married (damned 40 years ago). anyway at the other house i didnt have the garage space to keep it out of the weather so i sold it. it wasnt long after that i decided to make the garage bigger. i ripped off the roof, unbolted that west wall. widened the floor 12 feet, poured a new footing for the west wall, moved the wall to its new foundation. put a new roof on it and installed a 18 ft garage door. now i had the room but no truck. now i love my old 52 ford but it isnt that 37. i still look around at car shows for that old truck but i guess it was shipped out of the area. my point is, your situation may change this summer when you and ginger will have time together. it would be nice if you could spend it on "together time".
