Come to think of it, I thought that I saw Bob23 wearing a headdress like the one in the video I posted in a picture.  He was in the background dressed like that.

Whew.....No Mas, I found you a list!

Warning Signs that You are in a Cult

If you suspect the group you are in is harmful, but are not sure, ask yourself these questions:

do they claim to have a special corner on the truth, something no other groups has?
are you told to not question what is being taught, as the leadership are godly, honest, have divine authority and you must trust them?
are you discouraged from asking questions as to why members have left, and expected to accept the reasons the group leadership gives you?
do they put down other churches, groups, etc, while pointing out their faults and errors to build themselves up? do they use peoples faults and sins as examples of what to do and what not to do?
are you made to feel your failures, as though your performance is not up to par to their righteous standards?
do they recommend for you to be around their people, expecting you to attend all group activities? if you do not, are you are questioned about your spirituality or dedication?
do they stop you from reading anything negative about themselves?
do they call those who fall away enemies, dogs, or cancer, even using examples from the Bible or other such materials?
do they place and emphasis on evil and the devil, declaring that the world outside is a threat to the group?
do they defend themselves in every area?
do they give importance to a spiritual goal, such as enlightenment, godliness, salvation, that has no real tangible way of being measured?
do they operate in humility, or seem arrogant, and make demands on you to obey, using such statements such as "real believers obey without question or if you really were a devoted follower you would do such and such"?

Be aware of:

an instant bonding or friendship without even knowing you
being told you have a special calling or potential and that if you join you will move further ahead; flattery is used often in cults
when you ask questions about the history of the group, the answers are vague or avoided altogether
feeling that something is being hidden from you

Gee, this cult thing sounds like my place of employment!  Kidding...

The Admiral and I visited my aunt this fall in the Boston area.  We stayed in Plymouth, MA and ate breakfast one morning at a place called the Blue Blinds Bakery. The bed and breakfast we stayed didn't actually serve breakfast, but rather gave meal cards to a few local establishments.

It was a very...odd...restaurant. Very good food, but the staff were zombie-like hippies and the decor was really unusual. We didn't think a whole lot of it--we've seen plenty of weirdness in our travels, and being the oldest town in the US, along with a reputation for ghosts, it just seemed to "fit".

That evening when dining with my aunt and cousins in Marshfield, MA, they mentioned that a cult had taken up residence in Plymouth and ran a bakery.
They couldn't remember the name of it, but the Admiral blurted out: "Was it Blue Blinds Bakery??".  An immediate "YES" was given!  So we explained that we had just had breakfast there that morning.  Then they told us of the "Twelve Tribes" cult.  I was fascinated by this-almost obsessed with learning more about them, it peaked my curiosity as I've always tried to understand WHY people do the things they do. Of course I had zero interest in joining up, I was just trying to understand why someone would join a cult.

Well, your description is absolutely accurate of this Twelve Tribes group. A charismatic leader (con-artist), healthy doses of fear, God, chosen salvation, child abuse, eschewing of "the world", forced free labor, communal living and giving up all worldly possessions.  They feed off people without much a future-lonely, outcast hippie types.  They draw them in with friendship and slowly wash their souls of non-cult traditions and lifestyles.   Wow...talk about brainwashed. The leader of course has full control over these people, is now extremely wealthy thanks to free labor and the strict standards he imposes on them in quite unbelievable. Very much like you describe, No Mas.

But wait, that's not all...this is a global organization with "tribes" in several US states, as well as several countries on various continents!

Google Twelve Tribes and be prepared for the shock of what you'll learn.  And Bob, don't get any ideas. You collect the fees here, but that's as far as it goes! Got it??!?!!

By the way I am taking full responsibility for sidetracking this thread 2 pages ago. Sorry about that.   MAYBE someday the CBMWG will be discussed!!!

SELL ALL YOUR POSSESIONS, QUIT YOUR JOB, LEAVE YOUR FAMILY AND SEND ALL YOUR MONEY TO ME!!!!!!!! Who sais this is a cult! Bring me his head!!!

HeaveToo

HA Bob!  Caught you!  You messed up!  How can it be a Compac cult if they sell ALL of their possessions.  They can't sell the Compac or we have to shun them.

No, as long as they send their money from the sale of their ComPac to Bob, they are still in the cult.  They will spend their days polishing the hull, doing the bottom, and refinishing the teak on HIS Compac.

That's being generous.  The chosen one Prophet Bob23 will work us day and night with our only tangible reward being hardtack, warm, stale PBR and promises of future eternal salvation.  IF we're lucky he'll put some cots in this backyard shed for the commune.

You can take your cult, your outrageous site fees, stale PBR and shove them where the Suncats don't shine, oh scurvied chosen one.

All this talk about PBR confirms that it is a cult!

Darn it, real sailors drink rum.  I learned that from watching Pirates of the Caribbean.  You know that it is true if it is on TV or on the internet.

I tried the rum. Bacardi 151. Didn't make me heave to, but it did make me heave!

HeaveToo

Bah....that stuff isn't that good.  Try a good spiced Rum:  Captain Morgan or Sailor Jerry.  If not that, dark rum like Kracken.

That sounds like a good campaign for a rum company:  Real sailors drink rum.

Thanks Heave!

I was only kidding. The 151 experience was 42 years ago. Couldn't face a rum bottle for at least ten years following that night.

Like my cousin who fell into the upholstery machine, I'm fully recovered now.

I agree with you on the spiced rums. They are tasty!
