Was hoping to track down our first boat, CP16 (now sailing her younger sister!)

Up early as i see u r too! Yup, we realized early on that No Mas was at this point in our lives simultaneously both too small and too large, thus Interlude became our floataminium that we could stay on while we where there. We are going to slowly learn her ways and become comfortable with her for those extended cruises we dream of. Meanwhile we had been looking for another 16 so we could go out for those short trips and/or singlehanded to get to those special little places we had visited years ago. We will dry sail her so only one boat in the water. We spent more putting cloth on Interlude's dodger and bimini frames than we did to buy the 16! We both are pretty excited about the combination for us. Susan wants/needs the simplicity of the 16, and to a degree so do i, to simply sail more. Now there is also no excuse for attending BBB 11.0!

I know this totally confuses your fee calculations Bob, but mostly how can you be an active member of a CPYOA unless ya got one!

You, Susan and Mas have a standing invitation to BBB 2016! And if you bring cold beer, I will waive the re initiation fee for your new 16, something that's never been done before!!! Happy for you...something about the simplicity of a Compac 16. This has kind of rekindled my desire to own one. Of course, the Admiral will have my head if I show up with another boat.

Hey Bob,

It was my admiral that helped push us to get one. Neither Susan nor myself are comfortable with Interlude being the platform for Susan to relearn/learn to sail on her own, something we both know is necessary if we do any extended cruising. It just made sense to fetch another 16 as that is what we learned on over 30 years ago. You're right, the simplicity just encourages you to get out there and just sail. I was very fortunate to have found one so close to us and in almost new condition (limited fresh water use, garage kept, one owner). We had been looking since May when we realized what was going to happen in our boat world. Would have bought our old one inna heart beat had we found her and she was for sale but we both knew that probably was not the scenario that would occur. i'm actually kinda excited to see how the Mk11 with her larger headsail (she came with the working jib and 150 genny) performs. Mostly she needs nothing and has little that could be needed. Not that it would have been the reason to buy one but that interior trim sure was an improvement over the Mk1's. Kinda like a miniature version of the 23 teak trim and headliner. Nice touch.

The 23 is an incredible boat but wanted that simplicity of the 16 that you are attracted too as well. Maybe you gotta part with one of your boats and then Linda might be ready to have Mas boat in your life! Say the word and I'll start looking again and send any I find your direction! There was a 16CB version down the road from our boats that a fellow has not been using since he got a Seaward. Might just have to check in with him. I am not wild about CB's but guess you don't have to use it since it was an after thought to help them point better.

Now back to the business at hand......we clearly qualify for fleet pricing, right!?

I hope you make the BBB 2017 but it's a long way off.  Next on the radar around here is the Mid Winter Gathering of the East Coast Compac-o-nauts. Stay tuned but it's also a long way off. Heck, it's still summer!
  I haven't been looking for a 16 lately...too much going on in life. But once I sell my Precision 15 keel, with trailer then I may resume looking for one.

I highly recommend the Legacy but with only 90 produced a little hard to find. After all the Legacy is an evolution of the i6, points better, faster, chain locker pulpit and boom gallows, easier to step the mast and I get compliments on her looks where ever she sails.

Thanks for the advice and know the short comings of the ole 16 but the die is cast and we are returning to the boat that taught us sailing!

Well we got Mas down Friday night, rigged her Saturday morning and went out. Was a great day with 10+ knot winds. Maybe i just don't remember but her weather helm was not really an issue, maybe that little change with the larger headsail and effort further forward helped over our first Mk1 16. Regardless she has already endeared herself to me.

So TMW her name is indeed Mas. It fits in our situation on so many levels!

Well Bob, sitting last night with the usual marina crew having some cold ones and one of the folks mentioned seeing a CP16 for sale just up the road from us, she thought for $1,800 with trailer. It was at a place called Calico Jacks. Link below, jus sayin!

OBTW, didn't realize that Hutchins made any of the 16's with the cream/beige colored hull and deck but Mas came with a tan!

Just got a clue as to the tan color of our 16, from an old article from Keith Scott:

"The Com-Pac Club in Clearwater, FL invited our North Carolina Club to participate in a race in Clearwater. Com-Pac had just produced 2000 Com-Pac 16s and they made 10 boats that had a special tan color to celebrate the event. I decided to buy 3 of those boats and sail them in the FL race. "

Good chance ours is one of those.

What was the year of the 2000th CP16 edition?  My '87 Mark I has a cream deck and hull, although faded to nearly white.

Hey Dave, I am now sure ours was not one of those 10 if Keith is accurate. Our HIN indicates #2508. Maybe they did a 2500 tan edition as well. You have an 87 Mk!? ours is an 87 Mk 11. Puzzling . What's ur HIN?

You gunna plan on coming to the CBMWG event? We are so pleased to have a 16 again.

Now that we have returned to sailing (see "No Mas has new home" in the lounge) and have mostly documented No Mas' history we regret not keeping up with our first boat, a Compac 16. Here is all we know, she was sold to a professor I believe in the Environmental Sciences department at the University of Virginia in 1990. She was living on her trailer at our new little farm in Whitehall when he came to trailer it away. My two year old was more sad than us and we never saw her again.

So this is a huge long shot, but maybe someone here has or knows of a CP16 that has some glimmer of this history. Would love to trace her history, her ownership is still helping direct our lives. Sailing again!

OK, so I know it's been awhile since this "Help Me Find My First Love" thread was started, but it just so happens that what looks like an older style (Mk. I?) 1979 Com-Pac 16 is for sale right there in Charlottesville, Virginia as I write this...and a rather pretty little filly, at that. Hey Bilge, thanks for thinking of me. The ad is over a year old it seems. spoke with the fellow who posted it. Got enough info to pretty much rule out ours, though he didn't know the HIN  number thus could not completely rule out. He did get her in Florida 10 years ago prior to moving up here so probably not ours. We got ours in Florida then promptly brought her here for the almost 10 years we sailed her, then sold her here 27 years ago.

Was out yesterday in light and variable winds until Susan says, "start the motor, let's go find us a beach." with 18" draft easy enough.

So Bob23, aka Bro Bob, I did check on that 16CB we saw and reached out to the owner. He does says he is interested in selling her. Just think, you could come down for CBMWG 2.0 and leave with a 16cb in your rear mirror!
