No Mas has new home.

So HeaveToo, i am learning more about you here! All pirate flags and a nod to the Vikings, who were not know for their yacht club kinda ways! I am now wondering what flag we should fly?!

No Mas is getting her Christmas present a little early, she is now entering the 21rst century and getting a chart plotter. The knot meter had given up the ghost and thought she should have a proper GPS system. Still have the paper charts though!

Know there are many reasons that boat are referred to in the feminine, and the cost of accessories is one of them!

Well No Mas is now all tucked in for the winter, her Christmas present installed and now it's time for the plans to begin for spring launch. She already has playmates lined up and the parents are planning a mid winter Chesapeake gathering (see lounge for details).

Update on the sunken sloop and missing mast. Spoke to a diver who said there are plans afoot to raise it. Otta be worth watching! Will keep all posted.

It appears a workboat from out of the area tagged the mast and now she is leaning over in the water. A couple small markers out. Always conversation in this little place.

No Mas is now fully tucked in for the winter. Dreamin of Spring but looking forward to Winter.

Well it looked as though No Mas would have another 23 playmate since a sailor near us just got from under a 37 foot hole in the water and was interested in something like a 23. She actually didn't even want or could afford one that big after all. So when was the last time someone thought our 23"s were too big?!

so No Mas still got a new playmate but it is gunna be a Typhoon. Now there's a boat you sail up a storm in. Pun intended. Will be interesting to compare the sailing characteristics on the Typhoon with our 23D. My guess though almost 19ft oa, they have the typical Alberg sheer and overhangs so that the water line length is more like 13ft. Ballast to Disp. ratio bout the same as a 23 but does have that full keel with attached rudder. My guess will point a little better than No Mas' shoal keel but a little slower overall.

Might still invite her to join us at the CBMWG regardless as anyone who wanted a CP23 ought to qualify right?!

Right! And the Cape Dory Typhoon is a beautiful boat. I think they were made in 2 versions, one with a bigger cabin but honestly I'm going from memory. And I'd imagine when heeled, that waterline increases nicely. I looked at one that had been bashed around by Hurricane Sandy but it disappeared before I could buy it. I bet my wife paid someone off so I didn't stand a chance!

yup, this one is the weekender version, fractional rig rather than mast head. Small cabin with a port on each side. Was in great shape for the 1980 year. I also just learned that Compac did a CB version of the CP16. Learnin something new every day! Must admit, though we loved our little 16, she could not point worth a hoot if you had any significant heel. The keel was, at those points, in the "shadow" of the hull and provided some righting moment but virtually no leeway deterrent. A CB would have helped that significantly. Just don't like large moving parts underwater where they will hit stuff! Had a CB jam on a friends boat and we almost could recover her since he had to load on the trailer.

Well our most recent trip down to the boat revealed an ironic situation. Years ago (decades) when we had just sold our little CP16 and knew sailing was going to end for the foreseeable future (starting family, buying farm, yadda yadda), we went to the Annapolis Boat show one last time where, on the last day of the show, we were sitting aboard a Hans Christian 33T when my wonderful wife uttered a question that helped keep the dream alive. If you have never seen below decks on a HC33T google it. She looked around and after a bit then she asked "so how much can we get for our house?" I have never let her forget that question. The irony is that that same boat is now on the hard right next to No Mas!

As we move towards spring and excited about slashing No Mas, we are tempered by an event near us that claimed the lives of two livaboards and destroyed well over 20 boats, dock facilities, structures and the resultant environmental damage thus plunging the close knit community of Urbanna into shock and disbelief. It also appears it was arson. Many of the boats destroyed had been in families for generations, it is heartbreaking. Send prayers and thoughts to that community. Goggle Urbanna Fire if wish any more information. I guess all should be thankful that given the time of year many slips were empty and no others on boats or the consequences could have been even worse. I know we will install a smoke alarm on No Mas.

It is awful.  I heard about it.  It was overshadowed in the news but the death of one Prince William Officer and the shooting of two others.  It is awful to hear of people being killed in boat fires.

Hey Heave, it was not. we are in Topping just down the Rivah from Urbanna. Have friends there though and actually the major of Urbanna is the brother of friends of ours. You are right, it was awful. The pictures and video are scenes from Dante's inferno.

Oddly, last year Port Kinsale Marina had the same fire issue.  It is so sad.  I hate to see boats burned, neglected, damage, etc. 

I really feel bad for everyone involved.  Unfortunately this happens a lot.

Turn off your Shore Power when you leave the boat.  The other thing is that the space heaters aboard, they are so dangerous!

Well we are a little closer to splashing. PeterG did yeoman's duty helping rig the boat over the last few day so she's finally got her cloth on and it ready for bottom painting. Must admit Peter seemed quite pleased with not fretting over his boat this year. I reminded him that simply selling his boat would not get him out of sailing OPB's!

Got a new punch list going which is the topic for another thread as the list seems to self generate!

Next, new mooring line and new chain and rode. Gotta be able to keep her from wandering off after she's turned loose on the water. Think Bob23 had an episode of his boat wandering off once!

  Great news, Rick. Pedro, which is his real name, is a wealth of sailing information as well as a generally great guy. Remind me when I see you to share the tale of how we met at the very first BBB!
  I did indeed come very close to loosing Koinoina last summer while I was in Gloucester recovering from the toughest Blackburn Challenge in history.

Well thought it might be useful to fire this topic up again, though never would have thought so from the first post almost a year ago. As many of you know No Mas is having her adoption papers signed this week and she is moving to New England. Jonathan, the soon to be new owner of this great boat, has been lurking, so welcome him if he chooses to register, which I will certainly encourage! I will let him choose to give any details on her future sailing grounds but am pleased he will carry this boats name to new grounds.

Bob, he doesn't know about the $5,000 initiation fee payable to you so you might wanna sent cousin Vinnie up there to collect 

We may be without a Compac, but will still stay active here. Some one has to keep Bob in line!
