Just got our 1st new to us sailboat. When we bought it the lady didn't know what kind it was or anything about it. Through some discovery we found out it's a CP and here we've landed. We live on the Coast of Maine not far from Acadia National Park and we're looking forward to a fun time. My better half, Ruthann, has experience on open water and I'll I've really ever done is sail my open daysailer on local ponds.

We have some rigging problems and I'd like to ask, what might sound like newbie questions but then we all have to start somewhere, so here I go. I'm not sure of the size of our CP for starters, I'm guessing it's a 16 or 18'. Any quick and easy way to tell? Also is there someplace on her, we are calling her Free Spirit, where I might find a manufacturers nameplate?

Final, for now, and more important is she had some rigging issues. The lady we got Free Spirit from seems to have lost a piece of hardware. The boom has a pinning home in the mast end but there is not hardware on the mast to pin it to. Any ideas? I will get pictures of what is on the mast for hardware as soon as I get back out on her.

Thanks and pardon the rookie question. From what I've seen this is an awesome board and I can tell I'll be spending time here learning about my new dream come true.

Thanks again,
Michael and Ruthann

Check the starboard (right facing forward) top side of the hull. There should be a Hull Identification Number (HIN) stamped in the fiberglass there.

See:

http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm

If it is a Compac it will start with ABV.

Michael, Welcome!  there may be a 2 number block to the right of your s/n  Mine has a 19 in that block. OH, You must pay your board dues to me or Bob23.  You can pay Bob in clams. I, though, require LOBSTERS!

Hey Michael..  congrats on the boat..  my wife and i have   a compac 23, but it is at home in PA , sitting on a trailer..  we happen to be  on mt desert island for the summer.. i was hoping to meet up with some sailing folks here..  and now I have!     we are living / working at mt desert campground..   let us know if you would like to get together.. it would be fun to share a cup of tea or a campfire..  and even more fun to go for a sail :)     i did see an ad for a cp 23 in the blue hill area.    and I ran into a couple who was sailing a flicka in Belfast who also own a  23.    other than that,  have not run into any  compac owners up this way..    you can  get in touch at  cp23_1983   at    yahoo...     jt
