Anyone have a extra Tachometer for a Universal 12 laying around? Working or not. Or suitable alternative tach.Any help on troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Do you have a schematic?  You should have +12V and common going to the tach, plus a signal wire from the alternator.  The alternator signal is how the tach knows the engine speed.  Check all of those connections.

Thanks! I'll start there. I see their not cheap - $750.00 from toad marine.

Any type of tach that can take a signal from the alternator should work, although I'd imagine there needs to be a way to adjust for the alternator pulley size vs engine pulley size.  If you are in Tampa, go to Don's Marine Salvage and see what they have.  You could also likely get a used tach from something like a small diesel tractor.
