Job Change for me

Hey everyone,

I figured I would post on here about this because I know a lot of you from CLR, and some here from communications for advice through my email and such. I have been on the phone so much and everything it is hard to know who knows and doesn't know, along with phone calls to the current owners of the marina so I am not leaving them in a pinch.

I have been offered a job and accepted it. I will be starting work for Walmart as a AutoCare Manager in April. I am really looking forward to my new career, new challenges, and new people.

This ends as some of you know, what has been 5 months of hell of only knowing I wouldn't have a job when the new owners purchased the marina. I tried several times to get answers and never was able to get anything of a idea even after they told 2 other employees their jobs were secure. I can say that I believe that this is very possibly solely based on a personal hatred towards me due to a conflict that arose last year, that simply was a result of me doing my job for the current owners. I have known these people for my whole career at the marina.

I cannot say enough good things about the current owners though, and I am very sad to leave prior to the finalization of the purchase. There is a chance it may fall through still, but it looks like the purchase is still on track. The agreement for me to find a new job was made by myself and the current owners, so all of the process for that has been mutual, and completely open as far as communication with the current owners.

I dont want to say too much more, although the above was quite a bit. But I wanted to be open as I am very good at what I do, my tenure at the marina very lengthy for a man my age, and I wanted everyone to understand that this was not a move based on poor performance on my part, nor was it based on financial business decisions, etc.

I want everyone to know I will still maintain my knowledge base to stay as current as I can be. I will be absent for a bit when I go to training soon, but I will do my best to keep up with all of you on here.

To everyone that was with me in this mix, listened to me vent, etc, Thank you greatly....... This has been a trying 5 months, and I am truly glad to be off the roller coaster. I care greatly for my crew, and wish the marina good luck with this sale, and its future for the security of the remaining employees.

One big benefit is I could probably crew with racers now when I am off on the weekends! LOL

Thanks, Mac

Congrats on the new job!  It's always tough to make a decision like yours, but I've found in my own way, the rearview mirror look at what was ends up with me asking myself "Why didn't I do this sooner?".

Good luck in your new vocation!

Mac,

You've been a tremendous source of information to all of us here on the forum.  I know you aren't leaving the forum, but now might be a good time to simply say THANKS for all you've done. Our best wishes to you and your wife going forward!

Brenda and I are happy to hear that your decisions have been made and you are happy with them.  I've made career decisions that were both good and bad, but I don't regret any of them.  Life's experiences are what make it interesting.  Take your talents and drive to this new profession and just enjoy the fresh challenges and rewards.

Best of luck,
Mike and Brenda

I understand the relief.  I went through a big job change and a divorce back in 2008 (along with several other nasty surprises).  The sad part is that I am still making slightly less money than I did back then but the stress is much less.  So much of our lives depend on the quality of our jobs and when we are miserable at work it tends to make us miserable in our personal lives.

Good luck with the new job!  Just beware of the people of walmart!  http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/

And, THANKS for all your time and efforts on this Forum sharing your experience and knowledge with those in need. That is what makes this Forum work when others may fail.

Echoing all the other comments, Jason.  Change can be a wonderful, albeit scary thing opening new windows of opportunity.

Good luck with the new position!

See you at CLR my friend.  We're not going to hear any excuses why you can't be there.  Don't let Bob keel-haul ya! :) :) :)

Nothing but good wishes to you Jason.

And thanks again for letting me talk your ear off on the phone and patiently answering all my numerous email questions and posts.

We can all take our boats to WalMart for service now right?  Can't wait to see how you rig up an auto lift so you can pull boats off the trailer for bottom paint.
