I am moving forward with adding the FF1 furler to my tools. I have three head sails. I sail in Buzzards Bay, Ma. - a very windy/choppy area. The three head sails are the OEM, a 135 and a 150. I have never used the 150, nor felt the need to. I used the 135 once, and it was a lot of power with 15kt winds (too much?) and used the OEM a multiple times. A lot of times I went mainsail sailing only.

So, which sail do I cut for the furler....its between the OEM and the 135.

Opinions before I take the dive?

Curious....what model are you sailing?

Hello hinmo...
Good to see another ComPac in my area. I sail out of Swansea and am on Buzzards Bay many times. Either going to the Vineyard, Cuttyhunk or going to Lake Tassmoo (cool place). Have a great time with the boat. Maybe someday we will cross paths.

Ted - shes a 1982 with bowsprit, but the foot of the stay is on the boat frame.

Bruce - I haven't braved it out of the outer harbor yet....do you really take yours all those places? Blast me an email (should be on my profile) so we don't bore everyone with this Buzzards bay talk. I can get you a free mooring in Mattapoisett anytime....but with a CP16, why would you need a mooring!

Any suggestions on the sail?

hinmo,

I use a modified sail/jib that is a " tad " larger than the standard jib.

also, I assume we have similar sailing conditions, moored in Bass River, Nantucket Sound and used a double reefed main and jib at least 70% of the time.  Hull speed was easily achieved with this combination and still sailed  very comfortably. I would venture to guess that the 135 would be furled most of the time, unless you prefer a more exciting sail.

On the other hand the 135 obviously gives you more options on low wind days, wind sheltered waters or if you are a trailer sailor.

jb - you just talked me into the smaller jib. There is no need for more power on 95% of the days on Buzzards Bay.

Thanks

Definately the OEM jib. Consider selling the 150 on this site to fund converting both the OEM and the 130 for the ff1 luff tape requirement. A sail you never use is useless weight on a small boat.

Hi:
Suspect I did not see your reply. I'm up in Mt Hope Bay at the Swansea Marina. I've sailed out of Mattaposit on that light green colored trimaran that use to be there on a mooring. She sold it last year.
