We just closed on our purchase of a 1988 CP27 this weekend.  We are thrilled with the boat.  We bought it from the original owners who took great care of the boat.  In many ways I feel as thought I bought a new boat!  The survey uncovered a couple of issues the main one being some rot on the knees and plate that support the steering but I figure we will get that fixed this fall.  This is my second Com-Pac boat our first is a 1981 CP23 that we will continue to use.  We will be using the boat on Lake Erie in Sandusky bay and the Bass Islands.

Welcome aboard Chris:
There are a bunch of super maintenance tips in the C-27 section of this blog.

I was just visiting Lake Pepin, on the upper Mississippi.  While looking at sailboats, noticed that the older boats looked much better than their counterparts in the southeast.  The gel coat, fittings and bottoms all looked fresh.  Decided it was because they are in the water about half as much, being pulled during the winter.

Saw an early, 3 porthole, C-27 moored at the marina on Pepin.  I admired the nice hull and deck.

Again welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone for welcoming me aboard.  There was only one issue that came up in the survey and that was rotting in the plywood knees and plate that support the rudder shaft under the cockpit.  The rot is pretty extensive and the structure will have to be rebuilt.  I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue?   I think it was caused by the lack of ventilation in the lazarette and not from any specific leak found.  What have others done about the fact that the lazarette is not well ventilated.

Thanks Chris

JD

Welcome Chris,
I am a newbie also . I purchased a 1986 27 in October and I am about 75 percent done on a
60 percent restoration.. I look forward to getting her in the water hopefully in October for a month or so . Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Chris:
Jim Young in this thread <http://cpyoa.geekworkshosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=7630.msg56140#msg56140> said that he had a similar problem with his steering gear.  He has not posted on it since but might now.
