Hello folks,
Currently still in the restoration of our newly acquired 1986 27 . I have rebuilt the bilge and am trying to figure a way to not have the shower drain go into the bilge but somehow divert  it to another option such as a separate pan in the bilge compartment. I have looked under the starboard settee and know there is a starboard drain aprox 1 inch in diameter that Leeds to the bilge as a roll down liner drain like the shower. Has anyone modified there shower for a different type of process.mi checked under the drain and it looks only to be about a quarter of an inch in height to fit a separate drain onto. Any ideas..... Thanks

Hey JD: Windrunner was originally Cyndi-Cate a charter boat owned by four lawyers.  The shower drain at some time was modified to be collected (in the bathroom pan, I think) then pumped out through a through hull.  The pump was located in the starboard seat locker and the through hull fairly high on the starboard side.  The pump was wired to a switch located just under the counter near the forward wall of the head.

I have suspected that the flow of water into the bilge was redirected somehow to the pump but have not seriously studied how.  Presently the water does not go into the seat locker and finds its way to the bilge so I have not fooled with it.

The pump was missing when I bought the boat.  Since I am not concerned in draining the shower into the bilge I plugged off the hoses and wired the autohelm into the main panel where the shower pump had been connected.

I am going out in a couple of hours, I will check the drain out.

Thank you Charlie.
I am going to the boat tomorrow and will look a bit closer. I have many projects going on with this restoration. I think for now I may be over thinking . I totally rebuilt the bilge and I wanted to try to separate bilge water so I can isolate any leaking. I figured if I install a foot pump to the galley ice box to pump into the sink , and then somehow drain the shower water to a separate pan bilge or directly overboard  I could then only have rain water coming in or packing seal water.. It would make for a cleaner bilge and I could find leaks if any easier.. I will start posting several pics of the many projects that are in progress and finished.   Thanks so much for your input and I look forward to checking in to read up on new postings and replies. By the way her name La Sirenetta. Italian for (The Little Mermaid ) 1986 model

Hey JD: I attempted to take some pictures of the PO's shower pump system.  He glued a block of wood to the bottom of the hull right under the aft starboard seat locker....forgot to take a picture of that.  There is a 1/2 inch through hull type fitting that comes into the locker from the space between the shower pan and the hull.  I tried to take a picture of that but missed it.  (the LCD screen on our camera is broken so it is hard to compose pictures.  It is near where these wires come through.

The pump was given its own fuse in the main panel, and had another switch in the head.

The pump discharged overboard through this through hull located behind the starboard seat back well above the waterline.

There was probably some sort of diversion under the floor board allowing the water to collect in the shower pan or a collected of some sort in the drain.  I recall that the drain cover was loose when I was working on setting up the boat.  I just screwed it down and checked that the shower drained into the bilge and joined the hoses together that were the intake and discharge for the pump.

I apologize  for the poor pictures.  Hope this helps you along with your restoration.

JD

Than you so much . Every little bit helps. We'll get her figured out one way or another.
Thanks

Not sure it will work in the northern latitudes, but on Miss B. I re-located the shower to the cockpit area... Now when I want to shower I sit down on the floor of the cockpit with my back against the fold down table mounted on the pedestal and shower away. It's almost as roomy as a real tub, the water runs out the cockpit drain, the head stays dry, and there is much more elbow room, and I sit low below the combings enough that the neighbors have to really be interested to see anything they shouldn't.

Just a thought.
